Everton need to get the manager situation sorted as soon as possible and start looking up the table because at the moment they will be looking over their shoulder and worrying about the games they have coming up.

Steven Gerrard is on the pitch applauding the away fans. He kicks away the match ball, "still got it!" he says to the camera before running over to congratulate his players.

Meanwhile, some banners expressing discontent with the club's owners are being held up by some of the Everton fans still in the stands. A disappointing day for the hosts.

Everton have put Villa under real pressure. It's been much better this second half. They have been more positive and shown more energy.

Anthony Gordon has been a real plus.

It's tough to turn it round in three days, but the Everton players have really played for the crowd and their manager.

Villa, though, have defended their box and done what they had to do.

Danny Ings is booked for a foul by the Everton corner flag but time is running out for the hosts, who desperately start to fling the ball into the Villa box.

Leeds make two changes from the team which beat West Ham last weekend, both of them enforced.

Diego Llorente comes into the defence in place of Junior Firpro while Rodrigo replaces the injured Adam Forshaw.

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is urging his side to defend higher up the pitch but Everton are pinning them back with an aerial bombardment. Duncan Ferguson's substitutes, especially Anthony Gordon, have made a difference.

The ball just won't stick in the Everton half on the rare moments Aston Villa have possession.

Emi Martinez is again in no rush to take a goal kick but when he does kick the ball it doesn't take long to end up back in the Villa half.

Aston Villa haven't shown much in attack in this half and Steven Gerrard decides to freshen things up by introducing Danny Ings with 10 minutes to go. He replaces Ollie Watkins up top.

[The January transfer window] is a tough one for Everton. There is no head of recruitment, no permanent manager, there is no scout, so how do they bring players in?

They need players, they need reinforcements. Especially in the midfield area. We are nearly at the end of January and they need to bring players in.

The managers they are speaking to have to have these questions. Does that mean a manager has to be appointed sooner rather than later, or does Duncan Ferguson get given the chance to bring in his own players and be given a contract to the end of the season.
