Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC's Match of the Day: "It was a good entertaining game and we make an exceptional performance.
"Before the goal we started well with good build up, and the last 25 minutes of the first half and the whole of the second half was brilliant. We would love to score more and win but in the end we are happy with the performance.
"They defend well and are incredible on the counter-attack but I thought we passed really well. Armando Broja and Che Adams are so strong and it is not easy to contain them, but we did it.
"The result is the result, but the performance is much better than at Arsenal, for example, where we won. The last games we played against Southampton over the last two or three seasons, this was our best performance. I can see they are happy with the points and congratulations to them.
"I feel as a manager confident for the future with the way we are behaving. Without the ball, everybody helps each other. I know how difficult this stadium is, with the way they play and how good we have played.
"Sometimes it's difficult for me to understand how to drop points after one good performance for them to say that now the race is open, when before it's over.
"This is your job or for other people to talk about it.
"Today if we win I would say the same, it's not over in January. I would love in January to be 40 points in front of teams like Liverpool and Chelsea - the big rivals.
"But in January it is impossible. I would say I didn't expect to be in this position with this margin - it's not big but it's OK.
"Today we showed the same consistency we have been showing. [I would be worried] if people saw in the game that we were lazy or arrogant or trying not to win the game, but it was completely the opposite."

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl on BBC Match of the Day: "I’m tired. They are so good, they are so unbelievably good. If you want to press them they always find solutions and I must say we were amazing defensively. I think we had to do more deep defending than in the whole season together. Around the box, balls are flying in. Unbelievable saves from Fraser [Forster] today.
"It was a simple situation with the goal for us and then there was good chances in the second half, we had the chance for a second goal from [Armando] Broja. He was a big problem for us. We are super proud of what we did today against an amazing good team. Pep doesn’t like to draw against a team like us and we did a good job today.
"We are not always good organised but it is tough against them because they always finds solutions and we tried to make them quick finish their actions, that they have no time to play us around but in the second half in the first 20 minutes, you could not release the pressure.
"We deserved to get something because of our passion, because of our intense way of throwing ourselves at every shot. You need a bit of luck in some moments, I think the foul on [Kevin] de Bruyne was right on the edge [of the penalty area].
"When you are fighting like we have done today then you deserve to get something. I’m super proud. It was a hard week to prepare for the toughest challenge of the season but we did a good job and it’s good to see that the team is resilient against this quality.
"It is the complete opposite to last season. It’s important for us to give our supporters here better performances and I don’t know why but this season we are at home much stronger."

Kindergarten Klopp: Hoping this is like the end of Independence Day where saints send telegrams to every club. "It's from Southampton. They've found a way to stop them!"

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte speaking to Match of the Day: "It's difficult. I think we deserve a little bit more. We dropped two points, but sometimes that happens.
"We have played really well. To get 12 [wins] in a row is something unbelievable and I am happy we have got that.
"Now we will focus on the next one and this is important to do this for the rest of the season.
"We want to win every single game, so we are never happy to drop points, but we will fight until the end. This is what we have to do."

Pep Guardiola and Ralph Hasenhuttl are having a deep conversation by the side of the pitch after their media duties.
Guardiola is gesturing animatedly, while Hasenhuttl smiles. It all ends very nicely with a hug and a clasp on the shoulder.
"I really meant it when I said you were an exceptional manager, Ralph!"

Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We had to dig deep I thought Man City were good but we held our own we had to defend quite deep but we did plan for it, we were prepared and we were ready and we stuck to the plan and we came away with a point so we are really happy.
"Everyone knows how much quality they’ve got, but we showed we can combat that with really strong defending as a team and a unit. We’ve shown we can compete with the top teams.
"You want to compete against the top teams, you want to show everyone you can be at the same level. I think it’s eight games unbeaten here for us so we’re doing well, the fans are helping us – long may it continue.
"I was really happy [to score], I haven’t actually seen it back so I can’t wait to watch it.
"You can’t describe it, it’s the passion. This club has given me a really great opportunity taking me from Tottenham two years ago so I’m grateful for everything and every opportunity I get
"I think we’ve shown you can’t [score to early against Manchester City]. We scored early and I think we had other chances. Armando Broja had a few chances so it’s never too early as long as you are resilient and dig deep as a team you can achieve taking some points from the top teams."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "We played really well. Unfortunately, in the first half we conceded a goal, but I think this was one of our best performances of the season, by far.
"They were incredibly organised and this is one of the best performances we played against them. Yes, the result was not good, but in terms of performance and the way we played, it was excellent.
"We played better than in the Arsenal game, when we won, and today we drew. Sometimes you deserve it and you don't win, but the way we played here was excellent.
"Southampton are a really good team. They are organised, they play 4-4-2, long balls, good pace in counter-attack, good build up...But we were brilliant today.
"Why should we lose belief in what we have done? It was a good performance. We are going to drop points, but the way we behave is very good.
"We have two weeks to prepare for the next game. People will say the Premier League race is not over and that is good for this side. We have many tough games ahead of us, but we will try to behave until the end.
"I would like to have a 40-point lead ahead of Liverpool, but that is not possible in January. I didn't expect to have this lead, but now we will rest and come back as best as possible."

Manchester City's Aymeric Laporte speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we played really well and maybe deserved more, but if we don't score more than one it's very difficult.
"They have good players here and the pitch is small, so it is a little bit more difficult.
"I think we deserved more but we have to stay focussed and keep doing like we have the last few weeks. We're done a great job, now we focus on the next one.
"In the end we managed the game well and I think we could have scored more.
"We are happy because we have done a great job.
"I would like to win three points tonight but they played very good. We played very well also. Sometimes you win when you don't deserve it and tonight we got a point when we maybe deserved a little bit more."

I'd never say this to my dad (a Pompey fan) but well done to the Southampton board for sticking with Hasenhuttl despite those two nine-goal humiliations. Decent bloke and decent manager.

A battling performance from both sides.
Callum Johnstone: If nothing else, those VAR checks broke City's momentum at a point where they were just starting to boil. There needs to be some sort of time limit or restricted views to make a decision. Surely if you can't tell after 3 or 4 views then it isn't clear and obvious?
Martin Tooth: Wow. What an effort. Virtually defence v attack all game, but we stood up to the City juggernaut. Salisu absolutely immense. St Mary’s rocking. Great night for #Saintsfc

It will still take a lot for Liverpool to catch Manchester City.
They have two games in hand so could close the gap to six points. This is a blip in Manchester City's incredible run but surely it would take a huge collapse to lose the title from here?
