Plenty more to follow after this lunchtime kick-off, by the way.

As Ken Wolstenholme used to say on Gazzetta Football Italia: "Here's what's coming up!"

  6. Ismael's Baggies denied on Tykes returnpublished at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

    Friday: Barnsley 0-0 West Brom

Both Bournemouth and Fulham (who play on Monday) would have been pleased to see West Bromwich Albion drop points in Friday's goalless draw against Barnsley.

Valerien Ismael took his Baggies side back to his old club, but was unable to collect the win needed to put pressure on the top two.

It was a valuable point for Barnsley, who are still embedded in the relegation places.

  7. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

No goals but plenty of incident in that first half at a chilly and misty Riverside.

Boro flew out of the blocks with a relentless start which caught the Cherries on the hop, and Matt Crooks should have given them the lead but for a superb Mark Travers stop.

By the end of the half it was a more equal affair and Bournemouth had the best of the chances. Dominic Solanke headed a Ryan Christie cross wide from close-range, while Christie failed to guide home Phillip Billing's perfect centre just before the whistle.

    Still anyone's game.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

    Bournemouth have a chance!

Phillip Billing brushes the Boro defence aside down the left and bends in a tempting cross to the far post.

In comes Ryan Christie, straining to connect but Neil Taylor gets across him to deny him a clear-shot at goal.

    Still goalless.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 43 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

Gary Cahill takes one for the team, chopping down an in-flight Duncan Watmore to stop him launching a Boro counter-attack after Bournemouth gave the ball away.

It was tactically cynical and gets him a yellow card.

Watmore was flying and Bournemouth short-handed.

The free-kick comes to nothing, as Matt Crooks is offside.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

Bournemouth are trying to move Boro around with passes but the Teessiders are shutting down the space nicely.

Some smart one touch play down the right releases Jack Stacey but his cross from the right is easily gathered by Joe Lumley.

It's a tense Teessiders crowd though, nervy, anticipating something to go wrong.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 38 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

Mark Travers throws himself across his six-yard box to palm away a deflected Anfernee Dijksteel effort, as Boro press their claims on Bournemouth.

The ball skimmed off the heel of Lloyd Kelly and Travers had to switch his feet and dive full-stretch to foist it away from the far left corner.

  12. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

Duncan Watmore shuttles down the left and scoops in a cross for Middlesbrough, but the ball is cleared.

Watmore then tries to tee up Andraz Sporar, but the Teessiders are kept at bay.

They are still taking the game to Bournemouth, with about 10 minutes to the break.

  13. WHAT A CHANCEpublished at 33 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

Header, five yards out, of anyone out there you'd want attacking that, it's Dominic Solanke.

Well, he was there for Bournemouth to meet Ryan Christie's curling inswinger from the right, but guided his header wide.

How has he missed? Gilt-edged, would be a suitable cliche.

Jaidon Anthony goes closeImage source, PA Media

    What a horror show.

Middlesbrough give the ball away on the edge of their own box, with a sloppy loose pass from Jonny Howson of all people and Jaidon Anthony is onto it.

He turns his marker inside out and has sight of goal, but drags his effort wide.

That was on a platter, and he fluffs it. Really disappointing.

No one covered themselves in glory then.

  15. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

Boro squeeze Bournemouth tight at the back with a vice-like press as the visitors try to play out from the back.

There are four Boro players on the edge of the Cherries box as they seek a route upfield, and credit to the Cherries as they back themselves and get their reward.

Ryan Christie plays in Phillip Billing with a neat reverse pass into the box, and the Dane tucks the ball back before it goes out and Boro pop it behind to concede the throw.

Unfortunately for Christie, his corresponding corner is too deep and sails harmlessly away.

Scott Parker can be the picture of calm poise on the touchline sometimes, but today the snappily-dressed Bournemouth boss is a ball of energy.

Gesticulating enthusiastically, bobbing on his feet and bawling instruction.

Chris Wilder is also up on his feet and making his voice heard to his players in the opposite technical area.

    Two hands-on gaffers this afternoon.

  17. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

Not quite clicking for Bournemouth yet, whose midfield trio of Lewis Cook, Gavin Kilkenny and Phil Billing are yet to wrest control of the match.

Just as I type, Phillip Billing wins the ball midway inside the Boro half, and feeds Ryan Christie, but the Scotland international's curling effort sails just wide of Joe Lumley's far post.

    It's a chance though.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

Finally Bournemouth break the cycle of Boro pressure and get down the other end of the field.

Phillip Billing strode forward and pinged a ball to Jack Stacey. The move continues down the right but Boro concede the corner.

The Cherries try a short one for Dom Solanke in the box but his effort on the swivel was blocked, and the recycled cross was an easy claim for Joe Lumley.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

Isaiah Jones has been blazing a trail for Boro down the right so far in this game, ensuring that Lloyd Kelly's fitness is getting a good test after his return to the Bournemouth side.

He just couldn't keep up with the speedy Boro winger.

Jones fizzes down the right again after another teasing diagonal but he gets indecisive as he bears down on goal and the ball is cleared.

It's THE outlet ball though, Jones. He's tormenting Bournemouth.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Bournemouth

    Two poor passages of play.

Middlesbrough give the ball away on the edge of their box as Anfernee Dijksteel dawdles and Jaidon Anthony and Dom Solanke bump into each other.

Anthony gets the ball and then tries to thread his strike partner in but the Bournemouth forward's pass is overhit and goes behind.

No one will want to see that bit again.
