As a caller to Radio 5 Live's 606 said on Boxing Day, 'The buzz is back in Blackburn', and he is most definitely right.

Five straight wins, 12 goals scored and none conceded has moved Tony Mowbray's side up to third in the Championship.

Victory at home to Barnsley tonight will move them level on points with second-placed Fulham, whose trip to Reading has been postponed.

And to think the Cottagers were 12 points ahead of Rovers after their 7-0 win at Ewood Park at the start of November.

    Blackpool v Middlesbrough (19:45 GMT)

Middlesbrough have been proudly advertising half season-tickets for the Riverside Stadium as the 'Wilder Card' in recognition of manager Chris Wilder.

Chairman Steve Gibson played his card early when he replaced Neil Warnock with Wilder in early November when Boro were 14th.

But Wilder has taken 14 points from his seven games in charge and the team are up to fifth (admittedly with those below having games in hand) and there is a positive mood again amongst the support.

While they will be hoping to consolidate that play-off spot against Blackpool on a typical wet and windy night at Bloomfield Road.

  3. League Two fixturespublished at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2021

Both games kick off at 19:45 GMT

As in League One, cases of Covid-19 have totally laid waste to the fourth tier schedule.

Just two of the 12 games due to be played this evening are able to go ahead.

Barrow host bottom side Oldham and 23rd-placed Stevenage visit play-off chasing Swindon.

    • Swindon v Stevenage
  4. League One fixturespublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2021

All games kick off at 19:45 GMT

Sadly Covid-19 cases mean we've lost six of the 10 games scheduled for League One this evening.

Of the four remaining Ipswich's home game against promotion-chasing Wycombe is the stand-out.

Elsewhere, Oxford United can consolidate their top-six spot with a win over AFC Wimbledon and Shrewsbury will look to move further from relegation danger with a win over Accrington.

At the bottom, Morecambe can move out of the relegation zone if they can overcome 24th-placed Crewe.

    • Ipswich v Wycombe
    • Morecambe v Crewe
    • Oxford v AFC Wimbledon
    • Shrewsbury v Accrington Stanley
  5. Championship fixturespublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2021

All games kick off at 19:45 GMT

Blackburn are the form side in the second tier and a sixth straight win tonight would see them go level on points with second-placed Fulham. Standing in their way are a Barnsley who have won just twice all season and are in desperate need of points at the other end of the table.

Blackpool's strong return to the second tier has faded off in recent weeks but the Tangerines are just six points outside the top six. Tonight's visitors Middlesbrough will certainly offer a stern test, Boro are flying under new boss Chris Wilder and start the night in fifth place.

Coventry City have also seen their unlikely play-off hopes hampered by a tricky run of results but victory tonight will propel them back into the top six. Opponents Millwall have been consistently inconsistent this season and start the night in 12th place.

    • Blackburn v Barnsley
    • Blackpool v Middlesbrough
    • Coventry City v Millwall

Cancellations because of Covid-19 cases mean tonight's bumper EFL live text is unfortunately looking a lot lighter than we had all hoped.

In total we're down 19 games across the three leagues.

Still, we've got three Championship games that could have an impact on matters at the top and bottom of the table and six games from Leagues One and Two.

    Let's get to it.
