I thought Gil looked good. He didn't score and went he off it got better. If he had been on the pitch with Kane and Moura he would have looked much better.

  13. 'Harsh words at half-time'published at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2022

    Tottenham 3-1 Morecambe

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks, who scored his side's equaliser, told BBC Radio 5 Live: "We only have ourselves to blame. It was a poor performance from start to finish. We need to settle nerves and score. We didn't do that and it was a poor performance.

"It wasn't a good enough performance and we were sloppy at times. Everybody could have upped their game a lot. At half-time there were harsh words said."

On his goal, he added: "I meant that free kick. My thought process was to aim for the far corner, try to connect to it and if I don't someone can get a head to it."

  18. 'Spurs lack of depth is a worry'published at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2022

    FT: Tottenham 3-1 Morecambe

Morecambe can be proud of themselves and supporters. They had a dream for a moment. It was a good goal. But when the real Spurs players came on [they didn't have a chance]. Tottenham's depth doesn't look anywhere good enough, that's a worry.

Spudlud: I can excuse Gil as he’s fresh. But the careers of Ndombele and Alli are over at Spurs. To be subbed off in this type of game cause you can’t make an impact says it all about them.

  20. 'I liked the way we responded'published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2022

    FT: Liverpool 4-1 Shrewsbury

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Sport: "We've trained since Friday pretty much and that is what we decided with this line up. The boys really fought hard.

"When you get the first goal against you so many things can happen but I liked the way we responded.

"We started with five really young boys. They are really good players. We played so many safe passes in the first half. We knew we could play better football in the second half."

On Kaide Gordon being the second youngest scorer in Liverpool's history: "He's a real talent and his main strength is his finishing."

On Covid cases in the squad: "We only have one real extra positive case and that is Trent Alexander-Arnold."
