It was quite the game when Nottingham Forest and Arsenal last met in the FA Cup.

Championship Forest condemned then-Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to his first FA Cup third-round exit as the managerless hosts stunned holders Arsenal 4-2 at the City Ground.

But Gabriel Martinelli made his mark as an Arsenal player when the sides most recently met, in the League Cup in 2019.

The 18-year-old made his first competitive start in that third-round game at Emirates Stadium and scored twice as Arsenal swept Forest aside in a 5-0 win.

Arsenal's initiative is supported by former Gunners and England striker Ian Wright.

"We can never accept loss of life through youth violence as 'normal' in our city and it's so important that we all work together to create a better environment for young people," said Wright.

  6. Why are Arsenal in white?published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2022

Nottingham Forest v Arsenal (17:10 GMT)

Arsenal will wear a white kit against Nottingham Forest as part of an initiative to combat youth knife crime in London.

Called No More Red, the campaign hopes to give young people "more safe, positive spaces". It comes after 27 teenagers were stabbed to death in London in 2021, with teen homicides in the capital the highest since 2008.

The kit will not go on sale and will instead be given to community organisations.

It's ninth in the Championship up against fourth in the Premier League at the City Ground this evening.

Nottingham Forest have not reached the FA Cup fourth round in consecutive seasons since 2005 - while Arsenal have gone out in the third round just once in the past 25 seasons.

That one occasion, of course, was against Forest in 2018.
