  1. 'Weghorst fitted in seamlessly'published at 13:49 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Burnley v Liverpool (14:00 GMT)

    Sam Vokes
Wales striker on BBC Radio Radio 5 Live

Watching Wout Weghorst in the last couple of games he has seamlesssly fitted into the way they play - Burnley do a lot of due diligence on who they bring into the building.

That target man type, he fits the bill for Burnley but also brings a bit more, the way he links the play. He will be desperate to get his first goal at Turf Moor.

They are in a relegation battle at the minute so Sean Dyche will want him in the box and getting on the end of crosses.

Newcastle were outstanding against Everton - the speed at which they started the game - and they have Allan Saint-Maximin, who is a difference maker.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Tottenham are very up and down at the moment which must be frustrating for their manager Antonio Conte.

He will have been especially unhappy at the way they lost to Southampton on Wednesday after leading 2-1 with 10 minutes to go - which was a kind of role reversal of the way Spurs fought back to beat Leicester in injury time last month.

So I am not really sure which Spurs we will see here, but we know what to expect from Wolves now. The task for Conte and his players is to find a way of breaking them down.

    • Following their 1-0 win at Molineux earlier in the season, Tottenham are looking to secure their first league double over Wolves since the 2003-04 campaign.
    • Wolves have won two of their past three away league games against Spurs (L1), as many as they had in their previous 15 visits (D5 L8). However, they did lose this exact fixture 2-0 last season.
    • Eight of the 15 Premier League meetings between Tottenham and Wolves have been won by the away side (53%). Of all fixtures to have been played at least 15 times in the competition, only Leicester v Manchester City has been won by the visitors more often (55% - 12/22).
    • Following three consecutive away Premier League victories, Wolves are looking to win four in a row on the road in the top flight for the first time since April 1980 under John Barnwell, a run of five.

Tottenham's "milky" performances will cost them ground in the race for the top four, according to former Spurs midfielder Michael Brown.

Son Heung-min put them in front against Southampton with 20 minutes left on Wednesday, but they were caught out by two crosses in two minutes and fell to defeat.

"This was a game to get towards the top four," Brown said on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. "But it's horrific defending and losing today is a huge setback.

"Their performances are so inconsistent - a bit milky. You know exactly what quality James Ward-Prowse will deliver but Spurs don't go tight and that will be punished at any level.

"Antonio Conte has so much to do with those defenders."

Antonio Conte's response to that loss to Southampton is to unleash Rodrigo Bentancur and change out both wing-backs. Are those the changes you'd have wanted to see, Spurs fans?

  12. Who fancies the Europa Conference League?published at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Tottenham v Wolves (14:00 GMT)

At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today, we'll witness a clash between two sides smarting after chastening home defeats.

Tottenham threw away a 2-1 lead in the last 10 minutes to lose 3-2 to Southampton, while Wolves failed to use a man advantage to get back into the game with Arsenal, losing 1-0.

Both will want to use some pent-up anger to try and get the upper hand in what is a game between two European hopefuls. Spurs will no doubt have had an ear-bashing from Antonio Conte, while Wolves felt especially irked by the way Arsenal celebrated "like they had won the league" after their victory the other day.

  13. Lawro's predictionpublished at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

Newcastle v Aston Villa (14:00 GMT)

    Mark LawrensonImage source, BBC Sport

    Lawro's prediction: 1-1

There have been plenty of positives for both teams in the past couple of weeks and this has the making of a really good game. It's certainly a hard one to call.

Philippe Coutinho has been fabulous since joining Aston Villa last month and Newcastle will do well to keep him quiet, as well as Jacob Ramsey, who looks like he is going to be quite a player.

Newcastle got a huge win over Everton on Tuesday and you could see what it meant to everyone at St James' Park. Now they have to try to maintain some of that momentum.

Last time out, Villa drew 3-3 at home to Leeds, despite leading 3-1 at one stage in the first half. The big positives from the night were Philippe Coutinho and Jacob Ramsey.

Boss Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on the latter after his two goals against Leeds, suggesting he is an England player in the making.

"He’s playing at a level where I am sure people have close eyes on him," said the Villa boss.

"To be the age that he is at, with the amount of games he has played, I am sure everyone is taking note of that.

"I don’t pick the England team or the England squad, but I am always here to try to help England and support Gareth.

"Gareth is experienced enough and he’s got his own set of eyes, so I’m sure he will make his own decisions."

  17. 'We've got a long way to go to be the team that we want to be'published at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

Newcastle v Aston Villa (14:00 GMT)

Eddie Howe has praised Newcastle United's supporters for "always backing the players", adding that it was a great feeling to beat Everton in midweek, but "it's something the players will feel more" than him.

The Magpies go into this weekend's home game against Aston Villa out of the relegation zone and one point clear of Norwich City - but Howe insisted there's "still a long way to go".

"We've got a long way to go to be the team that we want to be. But we're working towards that," he said.

"I'm never going to sit here and say: 'Right, that's it. We've cracked it.'

"We focused on certain principles of play. I think those have certainly improved, highlighted really by the Everton game. Our possession game was very, very strong.

"But there's a lot of other areas that we know we need to improve."

On getting the chance to enjoy the win, Howe added: "My time for enjoying it is at the final whistle.

"I encourage the supporters to enjoy every moment because that's the joy of football and that's what we are trying to give them.

"The players know they're different. They can't. They've got to think like I think and now prepare for the next one."

Newcastle v Aston Villa (14:00 GMT)

A fantastic performance from Newcastle United last night in defeating fellow relegation rivals Everton. Howe’s black and whites were superb to a man. Other than the unfortunate Everton goal, Newcastle controlled the game with a maturity and intensity we’ve not seen in a long time.

Matt Targett made his debut and gave us exactly what we were expecting - a solid performance, balance and an energy that allowed Allan Saint-Maximin to tear Everton apart repeatedly. At times, the Toffees had four players around our gifted Frenchman yet still could not stop him.

Even going a goal down did not suck the life out of an intense crowd. The fans were on it from the first minute to the last.

Kieran Trippier’s free-kick was outstanding and the celebration electric. He’s a class apart.

A huge roar greeted Bruno for his cameo and the scenes at the final whistle suggested the togetherness, organisation and improvements Howe and his staff have made are going to see us stay up. And then it’s take-off. HOWAY THE LADS.

Burnley's task of getting out relegation bother has been made that bit tougher by the resurgence of Newcastle, who suddenly look a side again after spending £90m in January. Go figure.

Two draws followed by two wins on the bounce has taken Eddie Howe's team out of the bottom three and eyeing the places above them. They'll be gunning for that hat-trick of wins at home to Villa today.

  20. 'Defend well and find the big moments'published at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    Burnley v Liverpool (14:00 GMT)

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche: "I hope we start right and better than we did against Manchester United. Credit to them, they are a good outfit, as are these today. We have to take the game on. I don't think there was a lack of it, I just think we need to find the balance. They have pace and talent, but we have to find our way into the game and we need to do that quickly.

"You have to defend well. The base has to be right and you have to find the big moments. We found one against Man United and could have found a couple more that could have snuck it for us.

"Aaron Lennon has been a fantastic servant to the game and great for us. he works hard for the side. He replaces Dwight [McNeil] who has played a lot of football. It is the first time we have thought he needed to come out and have a rest. But he will come again because he is a very talent player."
