The big players arrive at the big moments. This was huge for Kane. It was big for England. It was fortunate how it came round, two slices of luck.

It was a cool confident penalty. Neuer looked massive in the goal. Three steps and he hammered it in the corner. We've seen him do that so many times before.

Now they have to see this game through.

Italy went ahead when Nicolo Barella angled a strike into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area after good work from Leonardo Spinazzola.

Lorenzo Pellegrini doubled the hosts' lead with a low shot from Matteo Politano's pullback from the right.

Hungary, who beat England 1-0 on Saturday, pulled one back through Gianluca Mancini's own goal.

Substitute Cameron Archer, who plays for Aston Villa but had a loan spell at Preston in 2021-22, has added a third goal for Lee Carsley's Young Lions, with five minutes to go in Chesterfield.

The victory will take England three points ahead of the Czech Republic, who only have one game left and would finish below England on the head-to-head rule if the two nations finished on the same amount of points.

What a brilliant save. That was a joy to watch as a former keeper. Harry Kane caught it so well. Neuer had to make himself big. As he's moving across, he adjusts. He wouldn't have known if he got enough on the ball to turn it round the post. Like the rest of us he was waiting to see if it drifted in. A massive save in this game. England have come into the game since Jack Grealish came on.

It was poetic, slow motion. It was dramatic, everything.

Handsome Nick: After a 27 goal season, Tammy Abraham can’t get on the pitch once again in this second game in a row where we are losing. The Nations League is a glorified friendly competition and still Southgate won’t give any strikers game time other than Kane.
