Harry Kane gets properly involved in the game for the first time. He gets the ball near the centre circle and runs towards goal before blasting a shot over from 25 yards. It was ambitous but at least he tried something.

    Germany 0-1 Hungary

We've got a stoppage in Leipzig.

The Germany fans are throwing cardboard balls and planes in the direction of the Hungary players every time they go to take a corner.

The weird thing is the taker, Dominik Szoboszlai, plays his club football at Leipzig.

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I do know that Italy have got a lot of players out, but it's not quite lived up to the standards of passing and touch quality so far.

The consensus from 20:16 is that Bukayo Saka shouldn't be at left wing-back.

Reece James drills in a low cross into the box, which is deflected wide for a corne... actually the referee says goal-kick as he didn't see the clear Italian touch.

    What a classic game.

    Italy 0-0 England

Corner to Italy as Federico Dimarco - who is probably getting more joy down the left than England's wing-backs - has a cross blocked by Reece James.

Dimarco's corner is caught by Nick Pope, England's first Newcastle goalkeeper in over a century.

    Phil McNulty

Phil Foden has made a really lively start for England, looking positive and sharp in possession. England could do without giving away these cheap fouls around the penalty area.

Italy fans getting behind their team. They like what they are seeing.

  14. 'James in behind and on all day'published at 20:14 British Summer Time 23 September 2022

    Italy 0-0 England

    Matt Upson

If England manage to get a string of three or four passes and manoeuvre that space, Reece James in behind and with his pace is on all day.

    Italy 0-0 England

A lovely Italy move - as they carve through England too easily - as Nicolo Barella goes down the right and crosses but Giacomo Raspadori can't control it in the box. I say can't but I mean doesn't - it wasn't that difficult a ball to take down.

    Germany 0-1 Hungary

Germany have had more than 60% possession but they are yet to have a single effort on goal.

Joshua Kimmich has just gone into the book for pulling back Dominik Szoboszlai as he looks to get clear.

It's almost 2-0 as well as the resulting free-kick is quickly taken and it ends with Daniel Gazdag's effort being smothered by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

This isn't the best game of football in truth. Is aimless the word? Feels like it might be. No chances in a while.

    Italy 0-0 England

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think England look much fresher, bit brighter but you can see the intent on what they want. It's just that quality, timing of the movement and the support when the ball goes forward has to be right.
