The home side have come out flying at the beginning of the match and the home crowd are happy. England are holding out under the pressure and starting to come back into the game.

It is captain Adam Szalai with the breakthrough and WHAT a finish.

A corner comes in from the left-hand side and the striker uses his the outside of his right foot to flick over Marc-Andre ter Stegen into the far corner.

It is his 26th international goal, on what is set to be his penultimate appearance.

That foul was Gianluca Scamacca on his West Ham team-mate Declan Rice.

A double dummy from an Italy free-kick leads to Federico Dimarco eventually putting the ball in the box and Harry Kane clearing.

It's a corner to the hosts but there's a foul in the box so the referee says free-kick to England.

Italy are pressing really high whenever the ball is loose and an England player gets the ball into their own half. There's a swarm of blue shirts really trying to win it back straight away, but England have not hit their stride yet.

England win the ball and Raheem Sterling finds Harry Kane in the box but the goal ace can't get a shot away.

It's not great yet from the visitors but they've definitely overcome that slow start.

England's first chance and it's... Harry Maguire.

The big man stays up following a set-piece and gets a header to a Raheem Sterling cross but it's straight at Gianluigi Donnarumma.

England are finally having a little spell of possession, a chance to just feel their way into the game after a sloppy start. Raheem Sterling is fouled.

Over in Leipzig it has been an even start, with neither side having a clear-cut opportunity so far.

A reminder that Hungary can seal a place in the finals with a win tonight.

When I wrote down the line-up and looked at the formation, I started to picture how they are going to play. I think that it is an exciting team and Declan Rice has started really sharply in the middle of midfield.

Italy are inches away from taking the lead. A cross comes in and West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca outleaps Harry Maguire at the far post before heading towards goal. A combination of Nick Pope and the post see the ball go behind instead of in.

First chance for Italy... actually it's offside. Giacomo Raspadori runs onto a ball over the top and has his shot stopped by Nick Pope, although it wouldn't have counted.

Now Rice tackles Raspadori in the box. Good start for the hosts.

Italy midfielder Nicolo Barella totally overhits a crossfield ball to Federico Dimarco, who generously gives him a little clap.

Italy's Bryan Cristante leaves something in on Phil Foden and England have a free-kick in midfield.

This is England's final game on the road before the World Cup starts in November. They don't play again after Monday's home game with Germany.
