  1. 'Offensively not good enough'published at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    FT Arsenal 2-1 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Deserved win for Arsenal. I think Arsenal did very well in the first half and clearly had a point to prove, and I think they did that well.

"I'm proud of my players because I think they defended fantastically, we defended the box superb.

"The downside was that we weren't able to keep the ball and press up the pitch, that's a thing we need to do better. We did it better in the second half and two dangerous situations, but in those moments we need to do better."

On Alexandre Lacazette's challenge on Pontus Jansson in the build-up to Bukayo Saka's goal: "I think it was nothing. Fair goal."

On what was missing from his side's performance: "I think it's fair to say that we're going into every game with a strong belief that we'll get something out of it, but we're also facing Arsenal who have done very well, so when you do that you need to play the perfect game.

"Defensively we were close to it, offensively we were not good enough."

  2. 'There were lots of top performances'published at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    Brighton 0-3 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche speaking to BBC MOTD: "Over the last four or five games, since Arsenal, there has been a real shift in mentality. We're never far away, but since that game the performances have been good against some top sides. Six points out of that, generally, on a normal season, you'd be happy with that. Obviously, we'd like more points. I thought we were excellent against Liverpool, maybe the knock-on effect from that performance went into today.

"We scored goals, that is the difference [to earlier in the season]. We created chances; that's been the difference all season. There hasn't been much wrong with our defensive shape or the way we've worked as a side. The energy of the performances have been good and we looked a real threat today. Wout [Weghorst] has come in and done fantastic for us, but others were looking a threat."

On the relegation battle: "It is tough down there, but there is a lot to build on and a lot of positives. It is one result, but an important one. The last one doesn't guarantee the next one, but it'll bring a lift in confidence."

On Weghorst: "I've seen him in training, I'd be amazed if he doesn't score more goals. He has been a breath of fresh air; defensively, he works for the team. He is a top pro."

  3. 'Such a long way to go'published at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    FT: Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

    Watford

Watford boss Roy Hodgson speaking to BBC MOTD: "It was a very good result for us, it was a very good win.

"We worked hard, and with a 1-0 lead to defend it’s so important for the future that you do defend it. The feeling of getting that victory rather than the dagger-in-the-heart of conceding a late goal [is important].

"I must be perfectly honest, I don’t think [Ismaili Sarr and Emmanuel Dennis] were at their scintillating best. But it was nice to see them combine for the goal.

"It’s nice to know we do have that in us. There were a few goal chances today.

"There’s such a long way to go. The danger is now that we think we’ve cracked it just because we’ve come to Villa and won.

"It isn’t [finished], the next two games will be vitally important as well.

"We’re going to need strong performances. People prepared to track back more than they’re used to doing. Put in a tackle they’re not used to doing.

"That’s what we’ve got to do. We’ll need to do it because we need the points. We’re quite divorced from the teams above us."

  4. 'It's a good feeling'published at 18:22 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    FT: Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

    Watford

Watford boss Roy Hodgson told Sky Sports: "It's a good feeling when you get a reward for your efforts.

"It's a very satisfying day but unfortunately with so many matches to play we need a few more of them.

"The performances have not been bad, we've had good ones at Burnley and West Ham.

"But that's been made up with getting the three points today. Not many people would have had us down for an away win today.

"The players now know the quality that is required and needed."

  5. 'We weren't good enough today'published at 18:22 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    Brighton 0-3 Burnley

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter speaking to BBC MOTD: "It was very disappointing. I've got to say two things: Burnley deserved to win and they were the better team. We weren't ourselves and I have to take responsibility for that. We'll look at it and try to get better.

"We started slowly and couldn't impose ourselves on the game, Burnley did it better than us. We couldn't get any fluency; we changed it after their first goal and got a bit of momentum but conceded a second when we were pushing. We didn't give ourselves a chance in the game. It was a combination of not playing well enough and conceding goals; in any football match, that is a recipe for disaster."

  6. 'We have real belief in what we are doing'published at 18:21 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    FT: Arsenal 2-1 Brentford

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Different context, different game [to the defeat by Brentford in August].

"But it was really nice see that game, to get ourselves united and understand why we were analysing and didn't lose our heads.

"I think today we were really, really good. We have a real belief in what we are doing, the players are enjoying the togetherness and the spirit they have is tremendous. They just want to keep pushing themselves.

"We have another game on Thursday, we'll try to win it and go game by game."

On Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka scoring again: "They have to get the headlines because they do what is most difficult and win the match by an individual action. They deserve credit for that, but I thought the rest of the team were very good too.

"We do a lot of work with them individually, mentally with the psychologists, to fill their belief. They see how they are with the supporters, that energy and that's probably their biggest strength.

"[Smith Rowe] He's been injured. He's worked really hard and when he plays like he did today, he's really good."

  7. Postpublished at 18:21 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 0-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel tells Sky Sports: "It was not the time to over expect something from us, we came from where we came, played 120 minutes in the FA Cup, 120 minutes in the Club World Cup in 30C temperature difference, we had jet lag against a good opponent, a tough team to play. We managed to win, keep a clean sheet, well deserved and could have scored in the first half. If you score late it is always lucky, nobody ever denies that but you need a bit of luck to win games. If you win them, there is not a need to think too long about it.

"They are a strong side at home, have confidence and are well rested. That is how it is. It is the best thing to come back and restart winning. We have not played a Premier League game in four weeks, so it is a bit strange. Nobody really has a feeling for the competition and it is not easy. That is why there is no need to feel bad or say sorry. We got the win, kept on trying and believing.

"Hakim Ziyech could score another one for a us, it was a good battle and was tough. We decided to play him on the far wing so it was a clear one on one with his opponent."

On facing Lille next week in the Champions League? "It's a good thing because with a win you can move forward, think up front and you don't have to worry too much."

Sam Jones: Considering Liverpool play there game in hand vs Leeds know Wednesday this is a key game for city as if they fail to win the gap could go down to just 3 by next week And they meet in April

Kev McVeigh: does any keeper make more mistakes in the Premier League than Lloris? Yet he's not vilified by pundits every game for past mistakes like other better keepers.

Bob Moss: Spurs are getting hammered 1-1, only matter of time until they go behind.

  9. Postpublished at 18:20 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 0-1 Chelsea

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira tells BBC MOTD: "We knew that to get something from the game, we needed to work hard and we did, we stayed in the game and to concede at the end is frustrating because I believe we can defend it better. Against Chelsea you will create little chances and when you do, you need to make them count. When we did, we did not make the goalkeeper work.

"It is a team performance, the way we defended the situation (goal). On the crosses we should do better, Tyrick Mitchell maybe could do better but as a team we should stop those kind of goals. With Chelsea's strength going forward we defend it quite well and matched them. To concede a goal like that at the end is frustrating. We are not going to play Chelsea every week and there is a lot of positiveness to take. It is about the experience and I am really pleased with the team performance."

On Vicente Guaita's injury: "He has a problem behind his knee and Jack Butland came on. That is the decision we had to make at half-time."

On Michael Oliseh: "He is a talented young player, he feels comfortable on either side. He understands the game and technically a wonderful player. We need to give him that time to grow as a player and playing Chelsea it was really good experience for him."

  10. 'I did not like the reaction'published at 18:18 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    FT: Southampton 2-0 Everton

    Everton

Everton boss Frank Lampard speaking to BBC Sport: "The first half was not fantastic, the first 15-20 minutes were OK and we might have been ahead. In the second half we were not right. The things they want to do, win the ball back in midfield and counter, we gifted that to them.

"Afterwards I did not like the reaction. I am here for a reason because we are down in a position we don't want to be in. In the two games at Goodison I have seen some really good things, in the two games away, not so much.

"We started the second half brightly. An individual mistake demands a reaction, not just a playing reaction but a mentality reaction and I didn't feel that from them today. I know they are good lads and want to react but sometimes when you have been in a hard run away from home it is easy to seep back into.

"The players need to understand that second half is not good enough. It is not good enough to lose second balls consistently, it is not good enough to try and miss out [midfield] and play to the strikers. It has to be an option but it can't be the way we play. We will have days like this. It is important to learn the lessons.

"I had to speak to them because I have been very positive and as staff we have had an uplift but today we drifted back into being a team I don't want us to be so the players need to hear it. You learn more from a defeat than a win."

The City fans were already making a lot of noise before their equaliser - either roaring their side forward or complaining about how long Spurs were taking over goal-kicks - and they are making an absolute din now.

Kevin de Bruyne is clearly fired up too, chasing down the ball near the Tottenham corner flag and keeping the pressure on the visitors, who are just hanging on now and look a lot less assured at the back.
