Everton fans applauded their players off at the break, and deservedly so - the question now is how long they can sustain their effort for in the second half after working so hard in the first 45 minutes.
FT: Man Utd 0-0 Watford
Watford
Watford boss Roy Hodgson told Sky Sports: “We grafted so well and played well enough to deserve the point as well.
“You always know that Manchester United are going to have a lot of the ball. For the best part we defended very well through the midfield and certainly around our penalty area. On the one or two occasions they managed to get a strike on goal we have a top-class goalkeeper who made two or three good saves.
“We always thought that if we could defend as well as we did, then with the type of front player we have it wouldn’t be beyond the bounds of possibility [to snatch a winner]. Unfortunately once or twice I thought we got into great positions but the person on the ball made the wrong decision. We weren’t totally without chances. Although the number clear cut ones, where you would think we would definitely score, were few and far between.
“It doesn’t matter who is dragged [into the relegation battle] and who isn’t. We have to get the number of points we need. If you think you will do it with less than 36, then you are probably dreaming. There is still an awful lot of points to go for us, but I think we should savour this point here. When you come here in the situation we are in, it is more of a victory than a draw."

Marcelo Bielsa's future as Leeds United boss is under huge threat.
The popular Argentine coach was already under pressure following a dire sequence of results.
However, today’s 4-0 home defeat by Tottenham has put Bielsa under enormous pressure.
It is understood senior Leeds figures had already been assessing a successor to Bielsa in the belief the 66-year-old would almost certainly leave Elland Road at the end of the season.
Now they must decide whether to act now in order to preserve Leeds’ top flight status.
Former RB Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch has been of interest to Leeds for a while now. However, there are other potential candidates, including former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde, who is currently out of work and is known by Leeds director of football Victor Orta.
In addition Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan worked under Bielsa at Leeds. However, after guiding Huddersfield into third spot in the Championship, there are clear doubts as to whether he would be interested in switching back to Leeds in mid-season.
FT: Brighton 0-2 Aston Villa
Aston Villa
Aston Villa's Matty Cash: "A great way to bounce back. It has been a tough couple of weeks for us. We have stuck together in training, we've gone out and team bonded and lifted spirits really. A fantastic win.
"I just keep trying to get shots and crosses off, with the system we have that is what I try to do.
"We came here last year and it was one of our toughest fixtures. This time we countered well and got a couple of goals, it is good.
"Every game is hard in this league and we just focus on us. We have a good team and a fantastic manager. We can only do what we can do."
FT: Brighton 0-2 Aston Villa
Aston Villa
Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard, speaking to MOTD: "We've been on the back of some sticky form of late but credit to the players they stuck at. We came out of the blocks in good form today and put in a really strong performance.
"In the main we owned the pitch out of possession today and all our good stuff came from that. We looked the most dangerous team throughout.
"The focus and concentration from the boys today out of possession was superb.
"The performance was there against Watford. Against Newcastle the performance and the rest was not there. We needed to be more clinical and inventive in the final third and we were today."
FT: Brighton 0-2 Aston Villa
Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton boss Graham Potter, speaking to MOTD: "We are frustrated with the scoreline but performance-wise I thought we were OK. We started well and their first goal came out of nothing. The effort and character of the players was very good.
"It feels like we have been punished for our mistake, especially for the second goal. The players tried to fight to get back in but it wasn't to be.
"We were pushing and had some opportunities to attack. The boys kept going. Aston Villa are a decent side. They defended in numbers and defended well."
FT: Brentford 0-2 Newcastle

Final Score
I was stood down by the touchline as Christian Eriksen gave his much-coveted post-match interview.
He only wanted to do one interview with English broadcasters, and calmly waved and thanked the supporters who stayed around to try and catch a glimpse of him close up. A clearly very humble guy who I’m sure will feel mentally exhausted after the past few days.
FT: Brentford 0-2 Newcastle
Brentford
Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC Match of the Day about taking to referee Mike Dean at full time: "I think it was very easy. I just wanted to get a bit more knowledge about the red card. I understand why it can be given. I'm not saying it's completely wrong, but it's hard to accept that randomness in football. It's not like he's flying into the tackle, he steps in to try to get his body in front.
"We went to a 4-3-2 and tried to defend well. It's a bit of good play from Newcastle for the first goal, but we still need to defend better at the back stick. The disappointing thing is the second goal, I think we can avoid that.
"I must praise the players for mentality, effort and character. For me, it was a coincidental red card in a random situation."
On Christian Eriksen's introduction: "It was a wonderful moment. That's definitely the thing that'll keep me smiling at the end. It was good to see him out there and it was good to see him show glimpses of what he is capable of."
FT: Brentford 0-2 Newcastle
Newcastle United
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We're very happy. We knew today was going to be a tough game. I don't think it was our finest performance, but I thought we showed real heart and character.
"The red card changed the game, definitely. We had a lot more of the ball and in the first half we were a real threat, chasing goals. The second half probably wasn't as good, but we kept a clean sheet and did the simple things well."
On Joe Willock and Joelinton's form: "They need to score and we've said we need goals from around the team. Joelinton has been very consistent, I'm delighted for him personally.
"Joe's general performances have improved steadily. His two goals [in the last two games] back that up."
On his side's fine form: "It's just important that we keep performing well. If we can't win, don't lose. The mentality and spirit in the squad is really good, but we have to keep that up in every match."
On Christian Eriksen's return: "It was an amazing moment and you felt the emotion in the stadium. I was absolutely focused in that moment on trying to win the game, but even I broke away and sent my best to him as he entered the pitch."
Here's the rest of the reaction from Saturday's game...

Half an hour in and the intensity of the home support in the stands is still being matched on the pitch by the Everton players. They are snapping into tackle after tackle and just aren't letting City settle.
The visitors are putting City under pressure everywhere, even on the edge of their own area and are using the ball well when they win it back too, as we saw from that Jonjoe Kenny chance. Half the ground thought it was in.
