  2. 'It is evident the squad is short'published at 22:42 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2022

FT: Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool (agg: 0-2)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tells BBC Radio 5 Live: "Really disappointed, we wanted to be in the final. There are moments we had them and you have to score and take advantage in the tie. We hit the bar, lost big opportunities in big situations to finish the game off.

"We really believed we could do it, we created an incredible atmosphere, the players were excited so it is a hard one to take.

"It was remarkable what five or six players have done to be available today without training. Thomas Partey tried to help but we ended up with 10 men. He has experience, knows how we have to play but we played three times this year with 10 men.

"It is evident the squad is short and we are trying to work on that."

FT: Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool (agg: 0-2)

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta talking to Sky Sports: "We are really disappointed but we played against a top side. We had big moments in both halves and we have to score.

"We had chances and were pushing for the game but we have to convert if we were too beat a team like Liverpool.

"We have played the last three games with 10 men and at this level it is extremely difficult to win like that. I am proud of the boys and how committed they were without any training sessions."

  6. 'Jota has turned into world class striker'published at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2022

FT: Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool (agg: 0-2)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talking to Sky Sports: "The mood in the dressing room is over the moon. Difficult game, difficult time but the boys were exceptional. First half, Arsenal started lively, then we calmed it down, played good football and created plenty. Second half similar.

"We scored two wonderful goals, Diogo Jota on fire. We were completely convinced when he arrived at the club he would help us massively. Since he is here he has made another step, he has turned into a really world class striker."

  8. 'We controlled the game overall'published at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2022

FT: Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool (agg: 0-2)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk tells BBC Radio 5 Live: "I don't feel like it is a statement but it was a good performance and have shown it throughout the season. We played very well, controlled the game and stayed calm and cool. We survived the storm especially with the fans behind them. Totally deserve going to Wembley.

"Diogo Jota is already a fantastic player, the numbers speak for themselves. He is very important, he has shown it from last year and a difficult striker/winger to play against. I know it from training. He has stepped up tonight again.

"He took the second goal fanatically well, a great ball form Trent Alexander-Arnold and it put relief in the team. If it was 1-0 in the last 10 minutes it might have been tricky. We controlled the game overall and did not have massive chances.

"I am definitely looking forward to it (Wembley), a chance to get a trophy and we will give everything we have when we are there. There are still so many games in between and the focus will be on it on the week to the game."

  9. Arsenal fans 'will be devastated'published at 22:09 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2022

Another step backwards for Arsenal. The fans will be devastated. Arsenal fans would think they had a chance.

Arsenal need to get that top four to be able to make signings in the summer that will allow them make the next step.

Arsenal have to do something in the window now. Maybe get Aubameyang out of the way and try and bring a better standard of player in. They have the nucleus of a very, very good team. I would put all my energy in the next two or three days in beating Burnley first because, lose that, and it feels like the end of the world for them.

  11. Liverpool 'schooled' Arsenalpublished at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2022

FT: Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool (agg: 0-2)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I have been at this stadium before and at times the atmosphere has been slightly toxic. They stuck with the team but you can't get away from the fact Arsenal are out of everything and aren't even into February. I think Liverpool schooled them.

You think about their signings and brilliant signings compete for major trophies. Arsenal are a level below and still a mile off. There is so much work to do. Arteta when you strip back everything, spent a lot and it is going to be a huge half of the season. You can see the pressure building on Arteta if they don't get in the Champions League spot.

  12. 'I thought Liverpool were superb'published at 21:57 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2022

FT: Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool (agg: 0-2)

I thought Liverpool were superb. Arsenal did well for the first 15 minutes, but then Liverpool got control. The two goals doesn't flatter them, it was a statement win.

  13. Jota a 'world class player'published at 21:53 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2022

FT: Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool (agg: 0-2)

    Liverpool

Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold tells Sky Sports: "Looking forward to it (the final) a lot, good for us to get there and what we expect. We put in good performances on this run, we have had young players but managed to win the games. We performed well tonight and what we deserve.

"We never gave them too many chances and kept them at bay. Diogo Jota's first goal was outstanding and so was the second. He is a world class player in the best form at the club so far, hopefully more goals from him. Hopefully we can win the final."

Asked if he counts his assists: "Of course. The number is good and the standard I set myself. I want to create and provide for the team, I created two more today and whoever is on the end to finish it off."

On fans being at Wembley: "It is what we want, it was not the same when we left Anfield as an empty stadium (after winning the Premier League). It has been a while to lift a trophy and it is good for us to be in a final. There are still 90 minutes to do that against a top side."

Maybe Liverpool felt after what happened at Anfield, they had a point to prove. Liverpool got the goal and then controlled the game. Jota got the goals but, to a man, Liverpool cruised it.
