Harry Kane loves a goal against Leicester. He won't get another with a free-kick like this, though. Soft, poorly-placed, into the wall and easily cleared.

    Off the line!

Harry Kane comes alive in the box, twisting and turning like a twisty, turny thing to find room for a shot. He succeeds and drives a low effort from an angle past Kasper Schmeichel, but not past a Foxes defender, who has scurried back as part of a group.

Mr Untactical: No disrespect to Mr Potter, but Ednut's comment (19:26) - re: who Manchester United should appoint on a permanent basis - is not really on for a club of the Red Devils' size and ambition. We need a manager who can handle the personalities and command the dressing room.

    Chance! For the home side.

Patson Daka darts to the near post to try and meet a low cross, but can't steer the ball towards goal with his outstretched boot.

Both teams are out warming up and will need to do so thoroughly on a bitterly cold night in the capital.

Plenty of hats and gloves on show.

Meanwhile, Brentford's bright orange training gear is certainly catching the eye, it's like they've forgotten to take their cycling gear off.

Leicester find their feet with a bit of possession in the Spurs half. James Maddison is at the heart of it, pulling strings.

Patson Daka wins the first header from the delivery, but only to send the ball back to where it came from. In it comes again but a Spurs player is penalised for a foul.

this place has filled up sharpish ahead of kick-off. I was worried for a bit with all the empty seats. Decent atmosphere.

The first City challenge raises a big cheer.

It’s Leicester’s first league game of 2022 and their first one since that win over Liverpool in December.

There’s usually goals in this game with 54 goals in 14 matches since Leicester were promoted to the Premier League in 2014 - loads of them scored by Harry Kane and he starts as you would expect.

For Leicester, there’s still no Jamie Vardy. Patson Daka is fit, Caglar Soyuncu also starts and there’s a place in the squad for the first time in over 11 months for full-back James Justin.

Kane and Lucas Moura start for Spurs but still no Son Heung-min, he’s out for a month, while Dele Alli is on the bench. Spurs would go above Arsenal and into fourth with a win.

Ednut: Manchester United should appoint Graham Potter if they want to rebuild and win a trophy. That guy plays good football.

Gregor Fink: Massive Game tonight for Spurs. Next step towards top 4 and Kane and Lloris contract extensions!

  18. 'A great chance to start off the new year'published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2022

    Leicester v Tottenham (19:30 GMT)

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, talking to BT Sport, says: "It has felt a long time. It's a big game and hopefully we can produce a good performance.

"We will always try to play how we play and look to attack the game but against top players you need to defend well. It's a great chance to start off the new year and see if we can continue from our last two performances."

On James Justin being a substitute after 11 months out because of a knee injury, Rodgers added: "We just have to be careful with JJ, but he has made some great strides forward.

"He has looked really good in training, had 45 minutes with the under-23s and played behind closed doors for 45 minutes as well. It's just about getting him back at the right time."

It's hard to judge Leicester's form right now because they have only played once in 2022 - their FA Cup win over Watford last weekend.

Tottenham have played four times since the Foxes' last league game on 28 December and, although they were beaten home and away by Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final, Spurs remain undefeated under Antonio Conte in his eight Premier League games in charge.

Lawro thinks that run will continue and is going for a 2-1 Spurs win at King Power Stadium. Sea Power guitarist Martin Noble, his guest from week 17 when this game was meant to be played, is going for a 1-1 draw.

Quite stirring having the music from the end of The Da Vinci Code rattling around the King Power. Pretty much the only good thing to come out of that film.

Anyway, the players are heading out. We'll have some actual football for you very shortly.
