FT: West Brom 0-2 Swansea City

That's all from us after two late Swansea goals brightened up what was a drab contest in spells.

Joel Piroe and Cyrus Christie found the target for Russell Martin's side, who climb to 16th - only three places behind their hosts tonight.

More importantly, perhaps, they have bounced back after a succession of poor away performances prompted plenty of criticism.

West Brom, certainly, would have expected much more at the start of the season.

It remains to be seen whether Steve Bruce's team can launch a late push for the play-offs. On the evidence of tonight's game, that is unlikely to happen.

Swansea head coach Russell Martin told Sky Sports: "I am extremely proud. Especially after the last game we had, it was a completely different performance.

"They have been incredible in training. To play the way we played takes big courage.

"I thought they were so brave tonight. We had a couple of scary moments which you expect with the players they have, the quality they have, but it's a great team performance.

"It's a 90-minute game-plan. We felt the more work we put into their legs, we would have a chance. We know they [West Brom] haven't got a great record in terms of conceding late goals.

"We had to be patient, especially in the first half. We asked for a bit more belief at half-time and a bit more positivity in the final third, which we certainly got.

"When we score first, we have a brilliant record. We don't make enough sometimes of the possession we have, but it's something we are really working on and tonight thankfully it paid off."

Swansea City goalscorer Cyrus Christie told Sky Sports: "To get a second goal gives us that comfort, but when we go ahead we're really good and can see games out.

"The boys were firing on all cylinders today, it was a professional performance.

"Even though they [West Brom] are struggling at the moment we showed what we're made of.

"The manager has spoken about how it's a transition period, we'll make mistakes, we're a young team.

"But each and every one of us performed today and it shows what we are made of as a team."

Swansea striker Joel Piroe told Sky Sports: "After the result last week, we needed to show that we can do it away from home.

"It's very important for us. Today was a very good step.

"We still have a lot of room to grow and a lot more to show."

  5. Swansea ease the pressurepublished at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2022

FT: West Brom 0-2 Swansea City

While the home mood is bleak, victory will do wonders for the Swansea dressing room.

After some painful away days, they dug out a clean sheet - and to had ride their luck on a couple of occasions - and then found the quality the game was crying out to win it in latter stages.

Joel Piroe's goal tally for the season reaches 15, while Cyrus Christie's second Swansea strike rounded off a fine night for Russell Martin.

A desperately disappointing night for West Bromwich Albion.

A really poor performance, a third successive home game without a goal (two of which they have lost) for the first time in almost 20 years.

And, after just one point from his five games in charge, new boss Steve Bruce must be wondering what on earth he has walked into here . . . and what he can do next.

He has skipper Jake Livermore due back from suspension at Hull on Saturday - but the next two home games after that are against two of the current top three, Huddersfield and Fulham.

And that, right now, is a worrying prospect!

It wasn't a classic by any stretch but Swansea showed a willingness in the last 10 minutes.

That substitution of Olivier Ntcham made such a difference.

West Brom were awful tonight but Swansea do deserve the three points.

Russell Martin and the fans deserve to enjoy this result.

  8. Albion need something extraordinary nowpublished at 21:54 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2022

FT: West Brom 0-2 Swansea City

West Brom's sixth defeat in their last seven Championship matches leaves them 13th in the table and eight points adrift of the play-offs.

What a slump it has been for a team who were top of the league in October and fourth at the turn of the year.

With just 12 league games left to play this season, Steve Bruce's side will need an extraordinary turnaround in form if they are to threaten the top six.

  9. FULL-TIME - West Brom 0-2 Swansea Citypublished at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2022

It is all over at The Hawthorns and it is another miserable night for West Brom, who are booed off as their poor run continues.

Steve Bruce's wait for an Albion win goes on while Swansea are celebrating after winning on the road for the first time since November.

We said before the game that it wasn't about the performance tonight for Swansea, it was about the result.

They haven't played their best but we've seen some real endeavour in the past 10 minutes and that will please them and the fans.

For all their recent struggles, West Brom have only lost one league game on this ground this season.

Barring a remarkable revival, Swansea are about to join Preston as the only visiting teams who have won at The Hawthorns in 2021-22.

The white celebratory smoke of an away goal at The Hawthorns had barely cleared away and Swansea score again.

And, from those Albion fans still here, the response is stinging.

"You're not fit to wear the shirt" from the home fans at both ends of the stadium.

They are right. Albion have been awful!

Swansea double their lead as Cyrus Christie drills home his second since arriving on loan in January.

Olivier Ntcham is involved again, feeding Hannes Wolf down the left.

Korey Smith fails to connect with Wolf's centre but it reaches Christie, whose drive is too powerful for Sam Johnstone.
