"I'm really proud. You come into a tournament and want to win it, and we did it.

"Even as soon as we won it, Sarina highlighted that it probably wasn't our best game on the ball. It was very sloppy. It has maybe been a theme, so going forward that is something to work on.

"To fight ugly against a German side is not easy and I thought it was really good in the end.

"Today we learned how to win. Even when things aren't going your way, or you need a bit of quality, our players delivered that and that is good for people to take away. They know they have that in their locker.

"In all three games I don't think you could say we outplayed and that is important for our confidence."

There is something different about this team. They’ve got that little bit of class. If we can make them more ruthless, and more clinical, we’re on to something – not just for the Euros but for the World Cup as well.

This is such a promising period for English football in this women’s national team. The manager is top drawer – the more time that she has to embed and get her style across, you will see England really kick on another gear now.

"The whole tournament was as expected - it was three top level games and three very different opponents.

"We saw many things from the team, we saw different players and different starting line-ups. We have also seen different styles from us.

"I've seen much progression, when I came in this team had so much experience already and some young players coming in. But the eagerness, the commitment and the willingness to learn is so immense. It's so nice to work with because we have grown so much and so fast. It has been a pleasure so far."

Some of the England players have just queued up to give Baroness Sue Campbell of the Football Association a hug on their way down to the tunnel. Ellen White then sprints past with the trophy in hand.

"Where's the champagne?" That's definitely what she said. I think.

England manager Sarina Wiegman tells ITV 4 that she has seen "much progression" from the Lionesses since taking charge in the summer.

"It's been a pleasure so far," she says.

England defender Millie Bright on ITV 4 talking about the Lionesses' chances at the Euros, which will be hosted in the country later this year:

"It's massive, it keeps our momentum [going]. Ultimately coming into this tournament it was about developing and about people getting minutes and exposure against top teams. We have done that well.

"We have taken our game to another level and shown that we can win."

England players are all smiles as they line up to collect their medals.

The trophy is thrust into the air. It's a sweet moment for the Lionesses.

Well that is one unexpected picture.

Millie Bright, the England defender, joins Spain's Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas to collect the golden boot award as joint top scorers in the Arnold Clark Cup.

I loved the last 20 minutes in particular, when England really went for it. Were really positive. They've got so much talent, and I want to see that more. I want to see more confidence. I want to see them do what the Americans do - but I want England to do that at the Euros where they come with swag. They want to dictate the game.

When Sarina Wiegman put more attacking players on and they started to get more players out wide, England were such a threat and it was such a joy to watch.

"This is brilliant. For us in the past it has been a rocky road. We are on a journey where we are all as one and we all know what we want the outcome to be - which is to win.

"I'm really proud of how far this squad has come. This is just the beginning. It wasn't pretty out there, but that is just another dynamic to our game - when things aren't going right we can change things and do it the dirty way to get the job done."

In the end, England finished level on points with Spain. They get their hands on the silverware courtesy of goal difference.

What a goal. She's picked it up in her own half, she's driven forward, she's against two players but they can't catch her. She dinks it over the keeper. This is all about Fran Kirby. That is outstanding.

It's a historic win for England.

The Lionesses beat Germany on home soil for the first time in history. By doing so they win the Arnold Clark Cup!

England take a throw in their own half. Unsurprisingly they take their time with it.

They will want to chew up as much as they can of the final 90 seconds.

The fourth official lifts up the board to show that there will be three minutes of injury time.
