City want a penalty, but both Foden and Maguire had a hold of each other.

De Bruyne's fifth-minute finish was his 50th Premier League goal, becoming just the fourth Belgian player to reach this milestone (after Lukaku, Benteke and Hazard).

City haven't been in and around the United box much but when they do they look a huge threat.

Riyad Mahrez is denied getting a touch by a clearing header, but the ball only drops for Kevin de Bruyne, who sees his shot blocked.

Andrew Mitchell: I would be intrigued to see how many of the goals that United have conceded over the past couple of years have involved Maguire and/or Shaw or Telles being out of position or ball watching.

Babyboomer: Telles was in the penalty area and five yards from de Bruyne. Why in heavens name did he keep pointing at him instead of getting closer before the ball came? He wasn't marking anyone else so why should someone else run 20 yards to take his man?

Manchester City have won all 20 Premier League matches when they have scored the opening goal this season.Nine of the past 10 competitive Manchester derbies were won by the team that netted the opening goal (the other game in that run was a goalless draw).

The devil is in the details, though. And when City heated up the knife, United turned to butter.

Chances at both ends so far. One of them taken. Tackles, fouls, plenty of noise. Yep, it's a derby alright.

Pep Guardiola was clearly troubled by something he had seen in those opening moments, turning around several times to remonstrated with his backroom staff.

Kevin De Bruyne's crisp finish has made him and the Manchester City fans feel a whole lot better. Just the start City and Guardiola wanted.

Almost the perfect response from Man Utd as Bruno Fernandes sends in Fred to give him a sight of goal. Ederson is quickly out to block, though, before a City tackle stops a follow up.

The defending from Man Utd was not very good. The centre halves are so very often out of position.

Victor Lindelof was out of position with one pass. Another problem is they do not smell the danger in there.

This Manchester City team has an incredible amount of great players. Anyone that comes in is brilliant. If you go behind to these guys it is difficult to come back again.
