    Jadon Sancho

    Remember me?!

Jadon Sancho, once of City, draw United level with a lovely curling finish inside the far corner of the net.

It came from a rapid counter that included Paul Pogba finding Sancho wide left. The young England forward did the rest.

The Manchester derby is delivering in spades.

Paul: Defending how they do you’d never ever believe this starting Man Utd defence cost something like £172 million. It’s not just these 4 either though. Luke Shaw makes so many mistakes when he plays and he cost 30+ mill himself. Utd have spent loads but spent badly.

Jack Lovatt: Quite the gulf in quality between the two Manchester teams, a mirror image of pre money City.

Paul Pogba is playing a useful central role for Man Utd high up the pitch. He's been found a few times now and almost help fashion something. The latest sees him spread play wide right for a blocked cross from Anthony Elanga.

De Bruyne almost his 51st Premier League goal as he drives forward and fires an angled shot from inside the box that David de Gea pushes away.

There is a chance for a follow-up, but Phil Foden is denied by a last-ditch tackle from Harry Maguire.

City want a penalty, but both Foden and Maguire had a hold of each other.

De Bruyne's fifth-minute finish was his 50th Premier League goal, becoming just the fourth Belgian player to reach this milestone (after Lukaku, Benteke and Hazard).

City haven't been in and around the United box much but when they do they look a huge threat.

Riyad Mahrez is denied getting a touch by a clearing header, but the ball only drops for Kevin de Bruyne, who sees his shot blocked.

    Speaking of KDB...

Andrew Mitchell: I would be intrigued to see how many of the goals that United have conceded over the past couple of years have involved Maguire and/or Shaw or Telles being out of position or ball watching.

Babyboomer: Telles was in the penalty area and five yards from de Bruyne. Why in heavens name did he keep pointing at him instead of getting closer before the ball came? He wasn't marking anyone else so why should someone else run 20 yards to take his man?

Man Utd are 1-0 down but they are actually playing quite well. They are playing nice little passes.

Manchester City have won all 20 Premier League matches when they have scored the opening goal this season.Nine of the past 10 competitive Manchester derbies were won by the team that netted the opening goal (the other game in that run was a goalless draw).

    Ominous for the visitors.

You know, United haven't actually started too badly here, if you want to hold your finger over the numbers in the top corner of the screen.

The devil is in the details, though. And when City heated up the knife, United turned to butter.

Chances at both ends so far. One of them taken. Tackles, fouls, plenty of noise. Yep, it's a derby alright.

    Phil McNulty

Pep Guardiola was clearly troubled by something he had seen in those opening moments, turning around several times to remonstrated with his backroom staff.

Kevin De Bruyne's crisp finish has made him and the Manchester City fans feel a whole lot better. Just the start City and Guardiola wanted.

Almost the perfect response from Man Utd as Bruno Fernandes sends in Fred to give him a sight of goal. Ederson is quickly out to block, though, before a City tackle stops a follow up.

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

    Peter Schmeichel
Former Manchester United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

The defending from Man Utd was not very good. The centre halves are so very often out of position.

Victor Lindelof was out of position with one pass. Another problem is they do not smell the danger in there.

This Manchester City team has an incredible amount of great players. Anyone that comes in is brilliant. If you go behind to these guys it is difficult to come back again.

    Kevin de Bruyne

    That didn't take long!

Manchester City pretty much walk this in! Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva are the architects, working space on the right for the latter to send over a low cross that goes behind a United defender and into space for Kevin de Bruyne to charge on to and finish.

The perfect start for City in their first proper attack.
