Michael Reid: If Pogba leaves United in the summer, does he really think he can get a move to a great team like City? Just don't see him being a team player at the top few teams in the world.

AJ Vergette: Manchester Utd do not deserve David de Gea for how much protection his defence fail to give him, time after time.

  8. 'We did about as well as I had hoped'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2022

    FT: Watford 2-3 Arsenal

    Watford

Speaking to BBC Sport, Watford boss Roy Hodgson said: "On the whole, I think we did about as well as I had hoped. We knew we were playing against a team in form with good players.

"We found ourselves 1-0 and 2-1 down so we were fighting a deficit but we still kept going. I think we did get the ball in and around their penalty area and we were decent value for our two goals but we paid a high price for the errors we made.

"Everyone wants you to criticise your team because we are in a world where if you lose, you have to put on the hair shirt. I actually don't think we could do an awful lot more offensively and defensively. During the 90 minutes we really played our part and had we got a draw I don't think people would have complained too much.

I think Joao Pedro came to life in the second half and probably was the dominant forward. Cucho Hernandez scored a great goal but, unfortunately, a good Arsenal have put three past us.

"Arsenal had to defend quite desperately once or twice. Their keeper made a good save."

On the race for survival: "We don't believe we are out of it, we have some very important games coming up against some teams around us near the bottom. We got a draw at Man Utd, and today we were not disgraced by Arsenal so that has to give us some heart."

  9. 'I saw an advantage there to be taken'published at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2022

    Watford 2-3 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal Mikel Arteta speaking to BBC Sport: “Very tough from the beginning, we conceded a goal straight away that was disallowed for offside.

“We knew we were going to play a team that can break your structure and make the distances of the game really big the way they play.

"We didn’t want that to happen and in certain moments we didn’t and had control. We scored three great goals. But defensively we looked vulnerable, we looked open, like we didn’t want to do the basics. And if you cheat in certain moments you suffer. And that’s why today defensively I’m not happy with how we’ve done."

On the performance of the front three: “The understanding, the timing, the movement, what was required from each of them, how they worked with a unit. It is getting much better.

“It flows much better and much more naturally and we need to maintain that and still be very difficult to beat defensively.”

On claiming an ‘assist’ for Saka’s goal: “The fourth referee said ‘Mikel, you shouldn’t be allowed to do that’. It just came out. I am living the game there, trying to help as much as possible, I saw an advantage there to be taken and I did it.”

His message to players in the dressing room: “The message was ‘I’m really happy, we are another step closer but today’s level of performance over the 90 minutes is not going to be enough.'”

  10. 'Fans have their favourites'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2022

    FT: Watford 2-3 Arsenal

    Watford

Watford boss Roy Hodgson speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we can take a lot from today. We were playing against a good team, we knew that; it was never going to be easy. But I thought for long periods, we asked questions and worked very hard. I think we paid a high price for a couple of mistakes. They led to some relatively simple goals; we had to work a lot harder for ours.

"I can't ask for more from the players than what they gave me and the club today. They worked very hard and never got downhearted even though they were behind both 2-1 and 3-1. I'd have liked another 10 minutes at the end, we might have got an equaliser."

On fan reaction to Imran Louza: "Fans have their favourites, I suppose [Edo] Kayembe plays in the same position as Louza; I like Louza very much but I thought he was looking tired. Maybe Kayembe's fresh legs may have helped us to get back into the game.

On playing the next few games away: "It is always nice when you are playing well at home and the crowd are supportive, but we've never been able to produce that this season. The crowd even decide to comment on substitutions, because they have their favourites. In my experience, the crowd don't always recognise which are the best players to leave on the field and which are the best to bring off. I do understand them criticising Louza coming off because he's very good. I just thought it was time to give Kayembe a go. We have one or two players the fans don't seem to take to, but unfortunately they are the ones keeping our heads above water."

  13. 'City have kept it simple'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2022

HT: Man City 2-1 Man Utd

    Peter Schmeichel
Former Manchester United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

What Man City have done is they have kept it very simple. They have exploited the gaps that are very clear for everyone to see on the right hand side of the Man Utd defence.

David de Gea is the best player on the pitch for Man Utd. It's a fair result that City are leading but the last two minutes were good for Man Utd.

United end the half with a couple of sniffs of goal.

A blocked Jadon Sancho cross from the left loops and falls for Alex Telles, but his volley is blocked behind.

From the resulting corner, Harry Maguire sticks out a boot to send the ball dribbling to a relieved Ederson.

Kevin de Bruyne is driving City on here.

He charges away again towards the United box but takes one touch too many, allowing Harry Maguire to stick out a boot and tackle him.

    The Belgian had options too.

David de Gea is keeping Man Utd in this. That was a really good save down to his right hand side.

It's far too easy for Man City to get a shot off. Something for Ralf Rangnick to sort out at half time.

    It has been brilliant.

    Save!

David de Gea produces a brilliant one-handed stop to prevent Riyad Mahrez's low shot finding the bottom corner after he had been set up by Kevin de Bruyne and cut inside for a shot.

It was almost past the Spaniard, who sticks out his right hand just in time.

    So much happening out there.

City are almost in again as David de Gea comes out but fluffs his clearance and falls, leaving the visitors' goal unguarded. United are able to rally quickly, though, and prevent City getting an effort away.
