League leaders Forest Green lost two on the bounce coming into tonight and they've taken just three minutes to go behind again at Newport, Finn Azaz giving the hosts the lead after only three minutes.

Second-placed Northampton started the day 10 points behind Forest Green, and Mitch Pinnock has already put them 1-0 up at Walsall as they try to close the gap.

    Cardiff 0-0 Derby

Derby launch their first attack of the night down their right and Festy Ebosele's pace causes the hosts some real concern.

The ensuing corner comes to nothing but I wouldn't be surprised if the Rams look to make more use of Ebosele as an outlet as the game progresses.

    Cardiff 0-0 Derby

The home side have made a bright start.

Rams goalkeeper Ryan Allsop punches a corner away under some pressure and the visitors eventually get a chance to build out from the back.

At the bottom, we have what could be an important fixture in the fight for survival as 21st placed Colchester host fellow strugglers Leyton Orient.

Only three points separate six of the bottom seven teams in the league, and a win would see Colchester leapfrog Orient.

That being said, neither side has much of a record at the moment - Colchester haven't won in the last five while Orient haven't in their past 11.

At the other end, leaders Forest Green travel to Newport looking to bounce back from consecutive losses for the first time this season.

While Oldham head south to Crawley hoping to keep up their unbeaten record since manager John Sheridan returned for his sixth stint in charge in January.

  7. League One previewpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2022

All games kick-off at 19:45 GMT

We've got five League One fixtures tonight and have three of the top four in action.

Leaders Rotherham are unbeaten in their last nine and head to Shrewsbury, who are not completely clear of the drop zone.

Second-placed Wigan look to put some clear air between themselves and automatic promotion rivals MK Dons when they host Fleetwood, whose poor recent run has seen them slip to 19th.

Oxford have a tricky fixture away at Portsmouth, who are unbeaten in four, while Sheffield Wednesday will be hot on the U's heels if they beat Burton.

    • Portsmouth v Oxford United
    • Sheffield Wednesday v Burton Albion
    • Shrewsbury Town v Rotherham United
    • Wigan Athletic v Fleetwood Town
    • Wycombe Wanderers v Cambridge United

Derby have to win this match. Their away form is dreadful and if they continue this run of just four points in 21 on the road, it will take them down.

The Rams face in-form relegation rivals Barnsley at Pride Park on Saturday before trips to Bournemouth and Blackburn.

Luton won Saturday’s game because of their ability to bring on experienced players who effected the game, Derby don’t have that. Their squad is threadbare and Wayne Rooney doesn't seem to have the resources to get points away from home.

Captain Tom Lawrence is a massive loss and this will be his final game of a three-match suspension. Derby have lost the two games he's missed so far, and you tend to think with him in the side the outcome could have been different.

Cardiff City recall strikers Isaak Davies and Jordan Hugill, and defender Joel Bagan.Derby make two changes from their defeat at upwardly mobile Luton on Saturday, with Luke Plange and Festy Ebosele coming in up front.

  10. Morison hoping to pass lengthy auditionpublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2022

    Cardiff v Derby (19:45 GMT)

    Steve MorisonImage source, Rex Features

Steve Morison took over as Cardiff boss on a caretaker basis in October following the sacking of Mick McCarthy.

The former Wales international was then given the job until the end of the season in November after a positive initial impact.

It's been slightly harder going of late though, with just one win in their past five matches.

That said, a win tonight would almost certainly be enough to guarantee them Championship football next season and Morison said last month that he felt he deserved to be kept on beyond the end of the campaign.

A positive result this evening could go a long way to ensuring he is.

  11. Derby's future remains uncertainpublished at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2022

    Cardiff v Derby (19:45 GMT)

Yesterday brought more worrying news for Derby County and their fans.

The Rams' administrators Quantuma have been asked for an "urgent" update by the English Football League, with a proof of funding deadline looming.

Quantuma were given until the start of March to show how the club would be funded for the rest of the season, after a four-week extension was given.

However, the EFL said on Monday that evidence had still not been provided, with no news on a preferred bidder for the club.

Derby have been in administration since September, when they were deducted 21 points.

    Good evening/noswaith dda.

Our focus tonight will be on the Championship clash in Wales as Cardiff take on Derby on St David's Day.

In addition, we've got five matches from League One and seven from League Two to keep you across.

As we're also marking Shrove Tuesday today, let's hope the action isn't as flat as a pancake. (Sorry.)

    Let's get to it.
