  1. Dark skies over Blue Toonpublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2022

    Peterhead v Dundee (19:45)

Peterhead have no such crumbs of comfort, having won just once in six outings - and that was after extra-time in the previous round on penalties after a 2-2 draw at home to Lowland League side East Kilbride.

Jim McInally's boys have only won one other game in their latest nine - like Dundee having overcome Dumbarton away from home.

  2. Dundee emerging from dark blues?published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2022

    Peterhead v Dundee (19:45)

With Aberdeen axing Stephen Glass and Queen of the South dumping Allan Johnston on Sunday, James McPake will no doubt have headed to Balmoor with some trepidation considering his side's league position and a potential cup banana skin against of third-tier minnows.

Dundee take the trip north having won just twice in 11 games, one of which was a tight 1-0 defeat of another struggling League 1 side, Dumbarton, in the previous round away from home.

In saying that, McPake's side have only lost once in four games and travel up the A90 having lifted themselves off the foot of the Premiership after that victory at Tynecastle against the division's third-top side.

Veteran former Dundee winger Ryan Conroy starts in one of three changes made by Jim McInally from the 1-0 home defeat by Alloa Athletic last time out.

Hamish Ritchie comes into midfield and Grant Savoury is up front, with Russell McLean dropping to the bench and David Wilson dropping out along with cup-tied Rico Quitongo.

  5. McGinn, Rossi and Anderson start for Dundeepublished at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2022

    Peterhead v Dundee (19:45)

Dundee boss James McPake makes three changes from the side that eased their relegation plight with a fine 2-1 win away to Hearts last time out.

Zeno Ibsen Rossi, making his debut on loan from Bournemouth, replaces Liam Fontaine in defence, Max Anderson is in for Josh Mulligan in midfield, while Republic of Ireland international Niall McGinn is in the forward line, replacing Zak Rudden.

  6. Dark Blues have edgepublished at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2022

    Peterhead v Dundee (19:45)

Such is the differing levels in which the two clubs operate that there have only ever been five meetings between Dundee and Peterhead - and all of them were in the League Cup.

The Dark Blues won the latest of them, in July 2019, but despite home advantage, only a penalty shoot-out denied the visiting part-timers a morale-boosting bonus-point group-stage win after a 0-0 draw. It was a similar scenario in Dundee's first-ever visit in July 2012.

Dundee won on their last trip to Balmoor - 2-0 in July 2018. But the Blue Toon used home advantage to record their only win over tonight's visitors - 2-1 in July 2016.

  7. Long-time quarter-final absencepublished at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2022

    Peterhead v Dundee (19:45)

Even in their glory years of the 1960s, when they reached the European Cup and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup semi-finals and won the Scottish League, Scottish Cup success has evaded Dundee and the only time they lifted the trophy was way back in 2010.

They have lost in the final four times since, but not since 2003, and have not reached the quarter-finals since they lost to Rangers in 2016.

Peterhead are looking to reach the last eight for the first time since their only appearance at that stage, in 2001, when they lost to Livingston.

  8. Quiet man McInallypublished at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2022

    Peterhead v Dundee (19:45)

Jim McInally, at 783 days Scotland's longest-serving manager in the senior game, celebrated 10 years as Peterhead boss in December.

The 57-year-old learned his trade under colour characters Brian Clough and Jim McLean but famously turned down bigger offers as he preferred to shun the pressures of high-powered jobs.

At Balmoor, the former Scotland midfielder has enjoyed the highs of promotion, as well as the lows of relegation, but a Scottish Cup win over Dundee would surely be up there with his best achievements in management.
