    Liverpool v Norwich (20:15 GMT)

    Mark LawrensonImage source, BBC Sport

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0

I was at Anfield when these two sides last played each other, only nine days ago. Although Liverpool won, I was impressed by Norwich, because they had a real go.

I'm not sure the Canaries will approach this cup tie in quite the same way, though, because they have an absolutely huge home game this weekend against relegation rivals Brentford that I am sure they will be focusing on - it's obviously much more important for them.

I expect Liverpool will leave out quite a few players who featured at Wembley on Sunday, but Jurgen Klopp's squad is definitely strong enough to get them through this tie.

The way he is managing now, he is giving games to everyone in his squad.

In previous years, when he didn't have the same strength in depth, these domestic cup competitions were a nuisance but now he has a strong squad he can use the cups to give players game time that they wouldn't otherwise have, and still win the tie.

More games for everyone means they are sharp whenever they are needed, and rotation is not such a big deal full stop - it means it's not a problem to rest players, so it is helping them in the Premier League too.

    Bru-C's prediction: 3-0

Norwich played really well at Anfield in February but I don't see them keeping Liverpool out.

West Ham face Southampton tonight hoping to make another step towards winning silverware this season.

The Hammers are also in the Europa League knockout stages, where they have been paired with La Liga side Sevilla.

Boss David Moyes said "every manager wants to win a trophy", but also insisted that is not the only focus for the club.

"I look more at how we're going to continue to try to build the club and keep getting closer to winning trophies," he said.

"We're on a good track at the moment, but the next couple of years will be an important time. We're trying to build a team that's getting stronger.

"We've made a swift move towards the top end of the Premier League. We're involved in Europe, had a decent run in the Carabao Cup and we're trying to get a good run in the FA Cup if we can as well."

  3. Abramovich news overshadows cup clashpublished at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2022

    Luton v Chelsea (19:15 GMT)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Kenilworth Road

Roman Abramovich's announcement that he will sell Chelsea overshadows a potentially tricky FA Cup fifth round tie at Championship side Luton Town.

Manager Thomas Tuchel makes changes but fields a strong side with Kepa, a central character in Sunday's League Cup Final defeat against Liverpool, in goal and Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in attack.

There is, however, only one piece of news in the build-up and that is the forthcoming departure of the man whose finances have fuelled Chelsea's outstanding list of recent successes.

Southampton v West Ham (19:30 GMT)

A very different approach from these two teams as Southampton make nine changes from their last Premier League game but the Hammers only make two.

Veterans Willy Caballero and Shane Long are among the Saints starters, with only Kyle Walker-Peters and James Ward-Prowse keeping their places.

Andriy Yarmolenko doesn't feature for West Ham as the club say they will not rush him back after the Russian invasion of his homeland Ukraine.

Alphonse Areola and Issa Diop replace Lukasz Fabianski and Aaron Cresswell for West Ham.

Ukraine forward Andriy Yarmolenko will not be rushed into returning for West Ham as his nation continues to fight the invasion by Russia.

Yarmolenko, 32, was given compassionate leave last week and returned to the club on Monday.

"He's really upset with the whole situation," said West Ham manager David Moyes.

"He realises the difficulty. He is a long way away and can't do anything about it."

Yarmolenko, who has won 106 caps for Ukraine, missed West Ham's 1-0 Premier League win over Wolves on Sunday.

There's not quite been enough time to roll the League Cup winners scarves off the production line yet but among the player names and Norwich half and halves are the ones proudly showing Liverpool's many trophy wins.

The Reds have won the Champions League, Premier League and now League Cup under Jurgen Klopp but the notable absentee under the German's watch is the FA Cup.

Success in the competition has so far eluded him but against a Norwich side Liverpool have beaten three times already this season could they tonight take an important step towards FA Cup victory and, just maybe, an unprecedented quadruple?

  13. 'I don't think I've ever been to a game with a moment like that'published at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2022

    Jeremy Vine
    Presenter, BBC Radio 2

I’m trying to work out if I can write about the final without mentioning Kepa – but there was much more to it than the final few seconds and the goalkeeper disaster.

The first thing to say is that it was the best 0-0 draw I’ve ever seen. We had 120 minutes of incredible football, without goals, then 21 goals in the space of about five minutes. It was nuts.

The second thing is just how rubbish VAR has made these occasions. Every celebration was provisional. I turned to my daughter (she’s 17 and has been coming to Chelsea with me since she was five) to hug and celebrate three times, but we just had this inkling each goal would be overruled. And they were. We never really celebrate anything any more. VAR has killed the moment.

Anyone who says the rules are the rules doesn’t understand football. It’s not a science, it’s an art. Offside is an art. You should be able to ride a motorcycle with a sidecar between the two front players before it’s offside. It can't be a tuft of hair on an elbow that decides a goal is ruled out. It’s nonsense.

The last thing is quite moving and is to do with Ukraine. Before the game, they showed flags of Ukraine on the screens and the announcer invited us to show our support. The crowd all clapped. Then the Liverpool fans started singing You’ll Never Walk Alone and around me all the Chelsea fans joined in as we knew we were singing for Ukrainians. It was an amazing moment, everyone singing the same song.

I don’t think I’ve ever been at a football game where there has been a moment like that.

It's been a turbulent few days for Chelsea on and off the pitch.

On Sunday they were defeated in the Carabao Cup final on penalties by Liverpool, with the decision to bring on Kepa Arrizabalaga late in extra-time as a spot-kick specialist backfiring spectacularly.

Now the Blues face the prospect of exiting two cup competitions in the space of three days.

On Tuesday, Middlesbrough continued their stunning FA Cup run amid dramatic scenes at the Riverside Stadium, with Alan Shearer saying Tottenham's defeat in the fifth round was "typical" of the north London club.

Teenage substitute Josh Coburn scored the winner in extra time for the Championship side, securing a 1-0 victory which sent the home fans wild.

"In front of the Riverside Stadium, it cannot get better than that against a Premier League team," the 19-year-old told BBC Sport.

"I hit it as hard as I could and thankfully it went in. Just amazing. I can't put it into words.

"All the lads are buzzing. The fans are getting behind the players too. Hopefully we can continue it and get another big team in the next round."
