"It was a big call on Wednesday night, it was touch and go whether he could make it or not. It's a really heavy pitch and sometimes you have to look at of the bigger picture.

"It's really important how we start the game, how we go about our business. We had great energy against Rangers, so we need to make sure that energy stays there."

Kelty also have two games in hand to strengthen that advantage, with it looking all but certain the Fife club will be playing League 1 football next season.

Stephen Robinson has lost both of his games in charge of St Mirren so far and has made two changes today.

Striker Curtis Main drops to the bench with goalkeeper Jak Alnwick out of the squad altogether. Alex Greive and keeper Dean Lyness are in from the start for the Paisley club.

"I'm really pleased at the amount of support that's coming. I hope that our performance gives them something to be proud of."

Speaking about the squad's injury crisis, he added: "It definitely makes things more difficult. Rocky's mistake against Dundee, the timing wasn't great. It's a ridiculously young team, but I have to push them again today.

"There were parts against Dundee that were good, it's in that final third we have to show that bit more intent and be a bit more aggressive."

Partick Thistle's late win over Inverness makes things interesting in the Championship.

Ian McCall's men are just six points off Arbroath, and they'll have two games in hand over whoever is in top spot at the end of the day.

The leaders will fancy their chances of staying at the summit when they welcome second-bottom Dunfermline.

Meanwhile, Kilmarnock, a place and a point behind Dick Campbell's side, host Hamilton at Rugby Park.

  19. McGhee returns to Fir Park with depleted Deepublished at 14:28 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Motherwell v Dundee (15:00)

Dundee boss Mark McGhee has key men missing on his return to Fir Park, with several out due to Covid-related issues.

The 64-year-old is looking for his first win in his fourth game in charge, having earned his first point in a goalless draw with 10-man Hibs on Wednesday.

Motherwell, who haven't won a league game since Boxing Day, have seen their form falter, but victory could reignite a top-six push.

While neither side are in free-scoring form, both have struggled to keep goals out. In fact, Dundee have the worst defensive record in the top flight, with Motherwell not far behind.

  20. Ramsey on Rangers bench; Brown missing for Donspublished at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Rangers v Aberdeen (15:00)

Those reported private physio sessions seem to have worked for Aaron Ramsey as Rangers' January loan signing from Juventus makes his first appearance in the squad in five games.

But the Wales midfielder only makes the bench along with fit-again centre-half Filip Helander.

Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been fairly consistent with his starting line-ups in recent weeks, but this time he makes three changes from the side that battled to a 1-0 win away to St Johnstone in midweek.

Scotland midfielder Ryan Jack is back from his latest injury problem, with forward Fashion Sakala and left-back Borna Barisic also starting.

Leon Balogun drops to the bench, with Calvin Bassey moving to central defence, along with John Lundstram and Scott Arfield.

Former Celtic midfielder Scott Brown is a surprise absentee for Aberdeen as manager Jim Goodwin makes two changes from the midweek defeat by Hearts.

Versatile pair Ross McCrorie and Connor McLennan start, with injured winger Matty Kennedy the other absentee.

Lauded right-back Calvin Ramsay returns from injury but only makes the bench, where Dante Polvara, their American 21-year-old January midfield signing from the Georgetown Hoyas college team, is listed among the substitutes for the first time.
