This is a harsh scoreline on Saints but that strike from Phil Foden rises above everything we have seen so far. It even made a sweet thudding sound as it came off his left boot.

Riyad Mahrez's goal just added insult to injury.

Manchester City fans doing the Poznan and singing about Wembley. Game very much over.

Joao Cancelo's pass should not be allowed, it's unbelievable, with the outside of his foot. Riyad Mahrez just thinks okay I'll just tuck this home, it's nonchalant football.

He's scored 22 goals this season and I still feel that every time I watch Mahrez there is more to come.

  8. goal

GOAL - Southampton 1-4 Man Citypublished at 79 mins

    Riyad Mahrez

Goals coming along like busses now.

This is Manchester City at their best again as Joao Cancelo hits a superb pass with the outside of his boot to find Ilkay Gundogan, who in turn feeds Riyad Mahrez and the substitute sweeps in.

What can you do when City's players are capable of moments like we've just seen for the last two goals?

  9. 'Wonderful finish'published at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

    Southampton 1-3 Man City

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on BBC One

That's as emphatic a finish as you will see anywhere in world football this weekend. Absolutely dispatched!

It sits up beautifully for him and on comes that wand of a left foot. What a strike that is, this is a player right at the top of his game, he's been nurtured in that position and just thumps it - that is a wonderful finish.

  10. goal

    Phil Foden

    What a hit!

The cleanest strike you will see as Manchester City play some lovely quick passes on the right of the area before Kevin de Bruyne clips it forward for Phil Foden, who just hammers an unstoppable drive into the back of the net.

    Such a beautifully struck finish.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 73 mins

    Southampton 1-2 Man City

    Big chance!

Mohamed Elyounoussi brings a high ball under control superbly before placing the ball into the path of Che Adams right in the middle of the box, Adams shoots first time but Zack Steffen saves. Kyle Walker-Peters then puts the loose ball wide of the far post.

Southampton will be kicking themselves. They should be level again.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 71 mins

Perhaps credit to how much Southampton have given Manchester City a game here as Zack Steffen is booked for timewasting.

Almost from the corner as it is played low into the box to Stuart Armstrong but his first-time shot is blocked.

Armando Broja is a really interesting player for Saints - if they can get him on the ball with his pace he could cause City some problems.

    They have to keep battling.

    Southampton 1-2 Man City

Can Southampton come back for a second time? They had looked good before Kevin de Bruyne's goal and there's still plenty of time to find a goal.

Remember, it is extra time and penalties if all square after 90 minutes.

    Southampton 1-2 Man City

    Phil McNulty

What was Mohammed Salisu doing? Needles intervention in such a dangerous position and now so costly. Saints had Manchester City careless and a little ragged. Now they have the advantage.

Southampton fans just regrouping after that disappointment and getting behind their side again.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 63 mins

    Southampton 1-2 Man City

Double subs galore as Southampton send on Che Adams and Armando Broja for Adam Armstrong and Shane Long.

Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden are on for Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus for the visitors.

You just can't make a challenge there in that sort of situation.

But was that ever in doubt? Kevin de Bruyne is the player they look to when they're in trouble. Goalkeeper nearly gets a hand to it but there's just too much power on it and it goes underneath him.
