Risky challenge by Mohammed Salisu on Gabriel Jesus... penalty!

There's possibly not much in it but Mike Dean points to the spot.

Kevin de Bruyne wants to take this...

James Ward-Prowse pounces on a loose pass in the middle and then drives a low effort towards goal but too close to Zack Steffen. Good stuff again from Southampton.

Southampton have been pressing really well again, but will they tire soon? We're approaching the hour mark.

Kevin de Bruyne thumps one over the bar - cue ironic cheers from the home fans. De Bruyne's radar is not quite functioning at its best today.

That was a wonderful ball from James Ward-Prowse. Adam Armstrong just can't get the power on it that he wants.

That has really lifted the crowd here, as well.

    Southampton 1-1 Man City

Adam Armstrong is one-on-one with Kyle Walker after being picked out by James Ward-Prowse's superb ball. Armstrong waits for support and then cuts inside before his shot is deflected behind off John Stones and the corner is then cleared.

Jack Grealish prods the ball to Kevin de Bruyne inside the box. Should he have shot? De Bruyne has a go, blocked, before Southampton scramble clear.

Jack Grealish loses the ball under pressure on the right side of the Southampton box.

I'm yet to be convinced by his display in this false nine role.

Ralph Hasenhuttl, in his smart waistcoat, came out early before the start of the second half and looked like someone who had had too much too soon at a wedding. He looked exhausted as he sat in the dugout but has his second wind now as he prowls the touchline, watching on as Adam Armstrong drags a shot wide.

Well that was a great first half, more of the same in the second?

    We're back under way.

  13. Saints get their rewardpublished at 16:03 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

    Southampton 1-1 Man City

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at St. Mary's

Southampton had been applying pressure and while the goal was a bit soft they won't complain about that. Manchester City have not been at their best and there is real hope and belief inside St. Mary's.

What a time to equalise and the perfect tonic for the start of this second half.

Manchester City have been a bit sloppy at times. Normally they control the tempo but Southampton haven't allowed them.

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

It was a really good pass and a really good run. They have done that three or four times.

They have pressed, they have won the second ball. It is what Ralph's team does really well. They have played some good stuff. They have really put Manchester City under pressure at times.

Southampton have been playing some really good balls in behind and I have been in Aymeric Laporte's position there before where you're trying to read the ball and your position.

I think Zack Steffen probably could've come out but he obviously just didn't want to give away the foul.

It was a massive stroke of luck.

Man City were in total control of the game until the last 10 minutes where they've just dropped off the pace.

    Game on.

I think he is onside, Mohamed Elyounoussi gets really lucky that it comes off Aymeric Laporte. He just tries to get it across the goal and Laporte gets in the way and Southampton are now right back in this.

It isn't offside and that's the last action of the half as the two teams go in level!
