  4. 'We are in a pretty good place'published at 22:24 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

    England 3-0 Belgium

    BBC Radio 5 Live

    Sarina Wiegman

England manager Sarina Wiegman: "The result is very satisfactory, kept it nil and scored three goals. There are always things to improve but we saw the depth in the team and there are others who didn't play that can impact the game too. We are in a pretty good place.

"So nice [for Chloe Kelly] after the injury. When she came back for Man City she built up the playing minutes. This is the first time I have worked with her, she is doing well and growing.

"Yesterday was an exciting day, harder for some and nice for others. That is part of the journey too and now we close that. It is nice to play a game after three weeks of training. We have seen so many things today was we can continue doing."

On black armbands after the death of her sister: "I found the support the players gave incredible. The togetherness with great human beings and it was such a nice gesture."

  5. 'The subs showed energy and quality'published at 22:19 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

    England 3-0 Belgium

    BBC Radio 5 Live

    Millie Bright

England defender Millie Bright: "We controlled the game in the first half but could not quite execute the finish, we just had to stay patient and not let them get into the game. The subs showed energy and quality. We wanted the goals but sometimes it takes a bit longer.

"It was a tough, competitive game and that is what we need. We know the goals will come and about sticking to the gameplan, we just need to tidy up on a few things. We were unlucky not to get one in the first half. A really good start for us.

"Chole Kelly has been brilliant, coming back from a big injury. She has settled into the group and strut her stuff. A brilliant girl. Football is not easy, it will be tough and we look forward to more tests.

"It has been a tough few days, an emotional rollercoaster and a good test for the group for how we react to situations. Some ups and downs after the squad announcement but we have to put that to a side, put in a good performance with a clean sheet.

"I finally got my 50th cap and more to come hopefully."

  6. 'Shows the depth in the team'published at 22:15 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

    England 3-0 Belgium

England boss Sarina Wiegman to ITV: "We dominated the game. We created lots of chances but didn't score in the first half. We gave them one chance. We said at half-time we wanted more runs in behind, keep our patience and score some goals.

"I'm very happy for her [Chloe Kelly]. It's nice she scored a goal after what she's gone through. You could tell it means something to her and the team.

"[We should have had] at least one [penalty] but we didn't get it.

"It shows how the depth in the team is. We wanted to win but we wanted to try other things.

"They gave us loads of information we can continue working on tomorrow."

On their next friendly against the Netherlands: "It's going to be a special game. It's a warm-up game for the Euros. But it's special because it's the country I come from."

  7. 'About tweaking fine details'published at 22:07 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

It has been a good test. Give Belgium credit because they were compact and disciplined for large parts of the game. England had to work hard to break them down and the subs had to make the impact.

You see the cohesiveness in the side. The crowd were waving their flags, singing and were pumped up. It is great momentum going into the next two friendlies before going into the tournament.

Sarina Wiegman will be impressed with the display and a positive performance, now it is about tweaking the fine details.

The girls will be enjoying the moment at full-time, this is what they want to experience in the summer. It is about creating a buzz, there is so much energy in the stadium.

  8. 'Wiegman is a perfectionist'published at 22:04 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

    England 3-0 Belgium

    Laura Bassett
Former England international on BBC Radio 5 Live

We have learnt that Lauren Hemp is the go-to attacking player. She has brought over her WSL form and we need her on the pitch fit and fresh.

The subs have made an impact. Give someone else a chance to show what they can do.

The Lionesses would have put pressure on themselves to win because they are expected to win. Did we see entries into the box? Yes. Did we see shots on goal? Yes. Did we see bits that need refining? Yes. There are a hell of a lot more positives than negatives. You have to remember these players have not played for six weeks.

The clean sheet was huge and England got tested in possession. Now we look ahead to the Netherlands, they will be tested in other ways, they will spend more time out of possession. Sarina Wiegman is a perfectionist, asking if we can get to the next level.

Defending the transition was the challenge tonight, Rachel Daly came on and identified that. We have to defend that better with passion, intelligence and nous. It could be a Vivianne Miedema next week and she won’t be as wasteful with the chances.

  9. 'An amazing experience'published at 22:01 British Summer Time 16 June 2022

    England 3-0 Belgium

England scorer Chloe Kelly to ITV: "No it couldn't [have gone better]. It was brilliant to be back out there. To get a goal was an amazing experience."

Did she have doubts she'd be here after her injury? "Definitely not. I said from the start I wanted to be at the Euros. I worked hard each day. I realise how much hard work I put in in my rehab."

What was she told by the manager before coming on? "To be an attacking player. To get balls in the box and enjoy myself. I tried to get my player one v one and enjoyed every minute of being out there.

"Each challenge gets us ready for 6 July."

Job done. It took a bit of time but England eventually proved their dominance. The substitutes made an impact and they created numerous chances over the 90 minutes. Two more games to go before the Euros...

It was a really good chance for Belgium.

She was unmarked, it is poor from an England point of view and in tournament football that is probably a goal.

It would have ended on a sour night if they conceded there right at the end.

What we have learnt so far today is England can be patient but create a lot of chances too.

It is about the fine details so they peak at the right moment in the tournament.
