  1. 'We need to enjoy playing in this atmosphere'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2022

    Red Star Belgrade v Rangers (0-3, 17:45)

"We know we are going to a place with a hostile atmosphere; this is something we need to cope with, with our experienced team," said Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst yesterday. "We need to enjoy playing in this atmosphere."

The stadium, known locally as the 'Marakana' has the longest pre-match walk in Europe and Red Star like to make the 240m journey through two tunnels just to get to the pitch as intimidating as possible.

Then comes the wall of noise from supporters.

  2. Rangers captain in rich vein of formpublished at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2022

    Red Star Belgrade v Rangers (0-3, 17:45)

James Tavernier knocked in the opening goal from the penalty last week, just as he did in both legs against Borussia Dortmund in the previous round.

The Rangers skipper also tucked in a spot-kick at Dens Park on Sunday, taking his tally to 12 goals for the season so far.

With four of those coming in the Europa League, the right-back has the most by an Englishman for a Scottish team in Europe since 2003-04, when Chris Sutton scored four for Celtic (three in Champions League, one in Uefa Cup).

The only Englishman to score more than four in a season for a Scottish club was Joe Baker in 1960-61 for Hibernian (six goals in the Fairs Cup).

    Red Star Belgrade v Rangers (0-3, 17:45)

The scoreline in Glasgow was emphatic but Red Star certainly posed a threat in attack.

The Serbian champions had three goals ruled out for offside after VAR checks as well as that penalty miss from Aleksandar Katai, while a long-range shot from Guelor Kanga rattled the crossbar.

James Tavernier fired a penalty into the top corner and Alfredo Morelos struck to make it 2-0 after just 15 minutes.

Allan McGregor then pulled off a fantastic penalty save and Leon Balogun crashed in a header early in the second half to give the Glasgow side a healthy cushion.
