It is a bit of theme is that this afternoon, Richard. There's Eddie Nketiah at Arsenal too.

The young striker is out of contract this summer but starts for the Gunners.

There will no doubt be a clamber from Man Utd and Arsenal fans to get contracts signed if Lingard or Nketiah have an absolute worldy this afternoon.

Richard: Why Pogba and Lingard? They're both running their contracts down and leaving for nothing in the summer. Neither have shown any commitment or desire when they have played. We've nothing left to play for and these players stealing a living shouldn't get games.

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham's Eric Dier talking to BT Sport: "We knew it was going to be tough and I don't think we were right from the beginning. We struggled to create chances and conceded a sloppy goal.

"We wanted to set a marker and we haven't done that. I am sure there will be a lot of twists and turns."

    • Southampton have lost their past two Premier League home games against Arsenal, as many as they had in their previous 10 against them at St Mary’s (W4 D4). Saints have not lost three consecutive home league games against the Gunners since a run of four between 1968 and 1971.
    • Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette has been involved in seven goals in his past six Premier League appearances against Southampton (five goals, two assists). Indeed, he’s been involved in more goals against Saints than he has any other side in the competition.
    • Since a goalless draw in February 2016, Southampton have scored first in seven of their 11 Premier League meetings with Arsenal. However, they’ve only gone on to win one of those seven (D3 L3), a 3-2 victory in December 2018.
    • Bukayo Saka leads the way for both shots (72) and chances created (56) for Arsenal in the Premier League this season. In fact, the 20-year-old is the only English player to have registered both 50+ shots and 50+ chances created in the competition this term.
  7. Arteta expecting 'twists and turns' in fight for top fourpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Southampton v Arsenal (15:00 BST)

Mikel Arteta says injuries to key Arsenal players have come at the wrong time, but insists his side remain up for the fight for a top-four finish.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is still out with a calf injury, Kieran Tierney is likely to miss the rest of the season and Thomas Partey could also not feature again this campaign.

When asked for an update on Partey, Arteta said: "The news that we got after having another assessment was not great.

"It is not looking very positive for his availability this season, but we will have to wait and see.

“He is trying to get back as quick as possible, but at the moment we are not very optimistic about it.

"We knew that towards the end of the season one of the key elements was going to be to have the team available and the squad available as much as possible. We have a few issues but we need to continue to compete and work the best possible way.

"There are going to be some twists still for sure. The pressure is going to keep changing from now until the end of the season. We have to do what we have to do."

Hundreds of Manchester United fans joined a protest march against the Glazer family ownership of the Old Trafford club this afternoon.

The fans marched from a local pub at 2pm and walked round the stadium, singing songs against the ownership, which they blame for a lack of investment in the club.

The march appeared peaceful but there were scores of police on duty and shutters were closed at the entrance to certain parts of the ground.

Ed Franklin: All those Spurs fans disrespecting Potter when he's been linked to the club should watch this game back. Totally outplayed and outclassed Spurs today.

Well that result certainly keeps things interesting in the race for the top four. Who would have thought Brighton would be the team to charge in to the works and start chucking spanners around?

Spurs' loss gives Arsenal a chance to make up the ground they lost last weekend with a result at St Mary's.

And Man Utd and West Ham have suddenly got a sniff again.
