Turgid... word of the day, is it an urban myth that all early kick-offs are like this?

    Paul, Hammersmith

Once again Spurs are not capitalising on a situation that leaves them in control of their own future. Pitiful. The manager can only do so much - if Spurs 'do a Spurs' today who's going to be surprised?

    Paul Sutton.

    Tottenham 0-0 Brighton

Finally some action in the box for Spurs but Son's attempt is well blocked. The referee had waved play on after Yves Bissouma fouled Harry Kane. Bissouma is eventually shown a yellow card for his reckless challenge.

Tottenham win a free-kick just outside the box after a foul by Yves Bissouma. More groans from the home fans as a training ground routine involving Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski does not work.

Stephen Miller: You wonder how much more incentive than a Champions League place and finishing ahead of Arsenal that Spurs need. This first half against Brighton was taking lethargy to its limit.

Paul Harris: Spurs are the masters of playing terribly and winning. I feel sure they’ll undeservedly nick this one.

    That's more like it!

Son Heung-min gets his first sight of goal after quick-thinking by Harry Kane but his attempt is blocked.

    Brighton have defended really well.

Spurs' one shot is their fewest in a Premier League home game in the first half since November 2020 v Man City.

It is the third time they've had one or fewer shots in the first half of a Premier League game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - something they only did twice at White Hart Lane and Wembley combined from 2003-04 to 2018-19.

There's more action in the Spurs dugout than on the pitch. Antonio Conte is very animated and his mood does not improve when Ben Davies clips Alexis Mac Allister for a cheap free-kick.

Boos greet the arrival of former Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck. Enock Mwepu who was dicing with a red card has made way.

Digital Teez: One of the worst halves of football I have ever seen. Seems like Potter's winning the tactical battle. Conte needs to earn his coin.

Currently watching my painting drying off, safe to say I'm not missing any action.

Herbie1972: How is Kulusevski still on the pitch?!! Cast iron red for the elbow on Cucurella.

Andrew Mitchell: How is Kulusevski not sent off there? We see players get red cards even if they only made minimal contact because their action was deemed reckless/dangerous. So is it not violent conduct to swing an elbow at your opponent’s face even if you don’t fully land it?

Menace: Red cards being diluted into yellow for Tottenham by PGMOL. Three players have got away with nasty limbs including elbows and hands.

Nick Toogood: Another abject first-half performance from Spurs. Another Conte rocket is needed in the home dressing room but Brighton and Bissouma in particular have been brilliant.

Roy Boy: What is it with this Spurs team? Jekyll and Hyde has nothing on them.

Nicholas Walker: Spurs need to speed this up. Both wing-backs need to offer options as it’s far too easy for Brighton.
