Cristian Romero feeds it into the feet of Harry Kane. He is closely marked by Pontus Jansson but manages to spin and get a shot off. It's deflected behind for a corner.

Ivan Toney can't get a shot off in the box. He lays it off to Rico Henry instead and he fizzes it across to Bryan Mbuemo. He's under pressure as he smashes it over the bar.

Mads Roerslev slides in to stop a dangerous long ball reaching Son Heung-min. Brentford are suddenly on the break and Hugo Lloris has to come sprinting miles out of his box to stop Ivan Toney. If he had got the challenge wrong... Nervy.

Dejan Kulusevski cuts it back for Emerson Royal, who is breaking into the box for Spurs, but the offside flag is up.

Harry Kane finds Son Heung-min. He tries to feed in Dejan Kulusevski but Pontus Jansson blocks it. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg then skews it well over.

Hugo Lloris is a lucky man. Bryan Mbuemo chases him down and the goalkeeper only just gets away with it, smashing it out for a throw-in.

Off we go again for the second half. Can Spurs find the goal they need to keep pace with their top four challenge?

Watford boss Roy Hodgson to BBC Match of the Day: "We were architects of our own downfall. It would've been very tough here whatever happens but you need to give yourself a little bit of leeway.

"But you concede a goal in the very first minute and then just before half-time you concede a third goal. I thought that was a little bit harsh because at 2-1 I thought we were making a decent effort to stay in the game and making life as difficult for them as I could expect us to.

"But then the fourth goal, in the first minute of the second half, is unforgivable really if you seriously think you're going to come here and dent any hopes they would have of beating you so we had to pay the price for that.

"The last two matches we haven't really been that bad, it was circumstances that caused us to lose those games. I haven't got the feeling we lost them because there's no spirit, no fight or no heart. It (the relegation battle) is not over yet."

A lovely moment earlier when Christian Eriksen was given a standing ovation by the travelling Spurs fans.

Antony: Do Spurs want the top 4 or not? On this performance NO, they have been woeful.

Zahi: Not a spurs fan but can’t help feel sorry for Kane. Where to now that City is signing Haaland? United? No European football. Spurs? Guaranteed zero trophies. Most wasted talent England ever produced.

Brentford have been the better side. Antonio Conte races down the tunnel. Tottenham need to up their game.

Mads Bech Sørensen launches in a long throw but it's well dealt with by Spurs.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is penalised for a foul on Bryan Mbuemo as he tries to break through the middle for Brentford now. It was right in front of the referee. Hojbjerg thinks it's soft and has a little smile.

Emerson Royal robs it off Rico Henry. The Spurs man tries to race away down the left but Henry gets back and fouls him.

Ivan Toney thought he was fouled by Ryan Sessegnon but play is waved on. Harry Kane loses it seconds later but Toney shanks the cross.

Not too much to get excited about. No shots on target from either side yet.

Ivan Toney headed it against the crossbar earlier which has been easily the best chance so far.

Good pressure from Ben Davies on David Raya, who remains calm as he's hurried into an awkward clearance.

Harry Kane then scuffs a shot which falls straight to him.

There's a slip in the middle from a Spurs player which opens up a gap for Christian Eriksen. He tries to take advantage with a quick ball through to Ivan Toney but he's put way too much on it.
