The relationship between Vitaliy Mykolenko and Anthony Gordon will be crucial for Everton today. Making sure Mohamed Salah doesn't get much of the ball and they nullify him. I think that is why Gordon has been preferred to Demarai Gray [on Everton's left], he is better defensively.

Hmmm. Anthony Gordon speeds towards the box is beyond Trent Alexander-Arnold but goes down claiming the Liverpool right-back pushed him.

That would have given the officials a dilemma if they had deemed it a foul, being close to the box. But they say Gordon went down too easily.

Everton are looking bright. Demarai Gray gets the ball on the left and floats across the pitch but has his shot blocked.

Then Seamus Coleman loses out to Diogo Jota on the right.

It is getting a little bit tasty. A few tackles, Everton players are biting at the Liverpool players.

Sadio Mane just went in for a tackle; he's certainly not backing out. Everton know they won't have more possession, but they are doing well with setting traps.

Liverpool are just starting to put together some meaningful possession. Mohamed Salah beats Anthony Gordon and Vitalii Mykolenko but fouls the Ukrainian.

Demarai Gray tries to get motoring down the right wing but Virgil van Dijk gets there first and plays the ball back to Alisson. No real chances yet, just that Gray free-kick into the wall.

Liverpool have scored first in 12 of their previous 14 home games against Everton in the Premier League, although the Toffees did so in this fixture last season.

It's actually been a decent start from Everton although Frank Lampard looks so stressed.

Richarlison goes down. What happened there? Not much as the replays show.

Oh my, that would have been a proper Everton chance. Demarai Gray spots a gap in the Liverpool defence and plays the ball into Richarlison, unmarked in the box, but he can't get it under control.
