Love it when a bit of Maradona is thrown into the mix on BBC One. Could watch highlights of the Argentine great all day long.

Qatar showed a few little glimpses, here and there. Afif has spent time playing in Europe. He looks like he has that one little bit of magic maybe. If anything comes from Qatar, it's going to come through him.

Even the set piece at the end, show a bit of belief, you can't lose anything here.

Akram Afif - who perhaps should have won a penalty after being bundled over by Ismail Sarr - looks to be Qatar's most effective outlet.

But the hosts haven't been able to get him involved in the penalty area all that much.

Qatar still haven't registered a shot on target in this tournament.

Quite a bit of studio chat about Qatar's penalty claim and it looks like our team is a little torn.

I'll leave you to make up your own minds. If you think the ref called that one correctly hit the thumbs up and give your verdict.

Senegal didn't manage to create chances but they took advantage form the mistake and scored. I want to see more from Senegal.

At the same time this team from Qatar are trying to create chances and we never know.

It has been a competitive game.

Qatar have tried to get forward on numerous occasions without the quality.

The game has been swung by one defensive mistake.

It hasn't been a great first half, Senegal have done enough to get themselves in front. Qatar don't have enough quality. They have got to do more.

Not exactly a game that will ever be used as an advert for the beautiful game but Senegal doing just enough at the break.

Qatar are a bit all over the place so far, clumsy, not dealing with the situations between themselves.

You've got all those Senegalese footballers who have played at the top of the game in Europe for a long time against players who, with all due respect, are at a different level. They are going to use that to their advantage.

Senegal just going through the motions keeping the ball at the end of the half.

Qatar really look so panicky and nervy every time the ball goes travels towards their back four or goal keeper.

    Qatar 0-1 Senegal

    Dion Dublin

The host nation are still in the game, it's only one at the moment. They just need a bit more determination in midfield.

It was really poor defending from Khoukhi, he hasn't moved his feet. He's unhappy with himself.

Sharp play from Senegal. Dia is on to that in a flash. He had a lot of the goal to aim at. It was inevitable that Senegal would go ahead. Qatar really don't know how to approach this game.

    Qatar 0-1 Senegal

Senegal's only clean sheet in nine World Cup matches came in their shock 1-0 win over defending champions France in 2002. It was also their first ever World Cup match.

Another today would do the job now.

It's an absolute disaster for Qatar and defender Boualem Khoukhi.

Without threatening, the hosts had kept Senegal at bay but now they have a real task on their hands.

Plenty of fans are already heading down the exits, going for Maghrib prayers or heading home early again?

    Qatar 0-1 Senegal

Senegal's goal is no more than they deserve.

As you can see in the xG graphic below, two speculative shots from distance is all that Qatar have mustered so far.

Qatar's xG is just 0.03 compared to Senegal's 0.35 (the yellow circle is Boulaye Dia's goal).

It is an instinctive strike from Dia as he runs onto the ball.

It is a poor, poor error.

Clinical but I wouldn't say it is deserved.

  19. goal

GOAL - Qatar 0-1 Senegalpublished at 41 mins

    Boulaye Dia

Awful defending from Qatar centre back Boualem Khoukhi.

You'd never have guessed he used to play as a forward or midfielder as he makes a complete hash of a clearance, falling backwards and teeing up Dia, who drives past Meshaal Barsham from 12 yards or so.

Really scrappy at the moment. Afif is dropping into the midfield area when he should be staying up top and giving the midfield something to aim at.
