Bukayo Saka has been at the heart of most of England's brightest stuff in attack. He whips a low ball to the near post, to which Mason Mount has ghosted for a shot that goes just past the post. The Chelsea man is more than capable of finishing that.

The lengthy injury delay for Iran keeper Alireza Beiranvand and numerous stoppages mean this has barely been a match so far. England, through no fault of their own, have simply been unable to find any rhythm - which exactly how Iran would have wanted it. It's been a mess.

A couple of overly aggressive challenges from Iran. If you're the England players, you don't mind that because those yellow cards add up and eventually they have to back off. You can't come flying in like that when you're on a yellow.

Three of the four goalkeepers subbed off in the first 20 minutes in a World Cup game have been against England (Villar for Paraguay in 2006, Hassen for Tunisia in 2018 and Beiranvand today).

A shot on target. It is very tame from Bukayo Saka and makes for an easy save for replacement keeper Hossein Hosseini. He gets a big cheer for his efforts.

Try to focus on the chance, not the nasty clash of heads.

The first booking goes to Alireza Jahanbakhsh, formerly of Brighton, now of Feyenoord. He goes in late on Luke Shaw and stands on the full-back's foot.

It is all a bit stop-start.

There has been such a disruption to the way England started. They have just got to find their rhythm again.

If you are just tuning in and think it has been a dull 20-odd minutes of football with little chances, I can tell you we've actually only played about half those minutes because of a serious injury to the Iran keeper.

In the free-kick goes and is immediately sent spinning away by the boot of Kieran Trippier.

Iran will have their moments. More often than not, it will just be about England staying focused.

The match chalkboard shows it's been all England so far, although most of their passes have come in their own half or middle third of the pitch.

The purple squares mark the Iran passes - there haven't been many.

It is Iran who seize a moment, getting their first real touches of the ball in the England half. They win a free-kick too. They can ask some questions of the England defence with this.

Surely there is no way Alireza Beyranvand should have carried on there? The poor guy looks in a really bad way.
