I can't see the conditions having a huge impact on the game, but the Iranian players will certainly be more used to the heat.

Rob Page will have to use the bench smartly today though, to cope with it.

We go again. Wales are back at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, four days after they drew here with the United States.

Two differences this time, apart from the opposition of course.

Firstly the Red Wall is based at the opposite end of the ground. And, more importantly, this is a 1pm kick-off local time, compared to 10pm versus the US.

That means we are playing at the hottest time of the day rather than in the evening when it is noticeably cooler, and believe me it is very hot at the moment.

The Wales team have just come out for their warm-up and they are probably sweating a lot already.

Whether we get out of the group or not will depend on today's result, so it's huge game.

You could say it's like a cup final for us today just to enable us to qualify. It's huge, it's as simple as that.

I'm more nervous today than for the USA game, I'm struggling!

Wales 100% need three points today. If we look at the results in the other groups, the point against the USA was huge. Germany have lost, Argentina have lost.

So as much as I was disappointed in their first half, it was important to get the point.

But today is different, if we don't win today, we're going home.

  7. The Wales fans ditching Qatar for Tenerifepublished at 09:18 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

An estimated 2,500 fans have gone to Tenerife instead of Qatar to watch Wales in the World Cup - and the fan who came up with the idea said she is having "the best time".

Bethany Evans said the idea snowballed after she posted it on social media.

She said most fans there were put off a trip to Qatar due to the cost, others because of rules and regulations.

A bar owner who made a fan zone for the USA game said it was "unbelievable".

When Wales qualified for the World Cup, Ms Evans, from Nelson in Caerphilly county, decided going to Qatar would be too expensive. She initially suggested a Tenerife as an alternative as "a bit of a joke".

But the idea went "a bit mad" as more and more people decided to join her.

You look at this group and Iran did not expect to get any points against England. It almost starts here for them.

They want to attack Wales and that's one of the reasons why they have put it in an extra striker. They're out if they don't get a result today.

  9. Dozens of Wales fans turned away at Dubai airportpublished at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

Dozens of Wales fans have been turned away at Dubai airport and will miss the crucial World Cup game against Iran.

A "glitch in the system" has meant that many supporters' Hayya cards - the permit needed to enter Qatar for the tournament - have not been accepted.

One told BBC Radio Cymru Dros Frecwast that he was one of 13 in a "hellish" situation because he could not board his flight on Friday morning.

He said he expects that hundreds more could be facing the same issues.

Hywel Price from Cardiff has been staying in Dubai - like many other Wales fans - and had travelled to Doha earlier this week without any issues for the Wales v USA game.

However, on Friday morning he was told he could not board his flight as the permit was still pending on the app.

Dan James had started Wales' last 35 competitive matches, so it's quite a significant call for Robert Page to leave him on the bench.

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

    Ashley Williams
    Former Wales captain

Gareth Bale got the headlines for Wales against the United States but for me the story of their night was Kieffer Moore.

Of course I didn't want anyone else but Bale to take our penalty, at 1-0 down and with less than 10 minutes to go. It was such a pressurised situation, and he dealt with it to get us an equaliser.

It was Moore who changed the game around for us, though. I was really surprised that he didn't start against the US but, on the back of that performance, I would be absolutely gobsmacked if he is left out against Iran on Friday.

The Bournemouth forward made an immediate impact after coming on for the second half. His first involvement was to take the ball on his chest, then run down the channel. He got us up the pitch by about 40 yards, and set the tone for the rest of the game.

  14. 'It is what you dream of' - Moorepublished at 09:10 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

Wales striker Kieffer Moore has earned his first World Cup start today to cap his remarkable rise to the top.

Less than a decade ago, Moore combined playing part-time non-league football at Truro City with weekday jobs as a lifeguard and personal trainer.

After changing the game as a substitute in Wales' opening draw with the United States, Moore is now targeting a start against Iran in Qatar today.

"It's what you dream of as a little boy, to play at World Cups," he said.

"If I manage to start today, it will be a very proud moment for myself and my family and one which will have taken a lot of hard work and dedication to get to."

  15. Wales must be ready for Iran response - Wilsonpublished at 09:06 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

Harry Wilson says Wales will face an Iran side who are determined to deliver a response when they meet in World Cup Group B this morning.

Wales take on the Iranians knowing victory may be vital to their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

Iran were thrashed 6-2 by England in their tournament opener on Monday.

"It was a difficult result for them. England was always going to be difficult," said Wales midfielder Wilson.

"They will be looking for a reaction and I think that is what we are going to see.

"It will be up to us to make sure we are on form to try and get the three points."

The correspondent had asked footballer Mehdi Taremi for his views on the protests in Iran.

Afterwards, Mr Queiroz asked if it was fair for the player to have been asked a political question.

  17. Iran anthem protestpublished at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

It is inevitable that attention will be paid during the anthems as to whether the Iranian players protest with silence, as they did before their defeat to England.

Iran declined to sing their national anthem before their World Cup match with England in an apparent expression of support for anti-government protests in their home country.

Some fans shouted and jeered during the anthem and others held up signs saying "Woman, Life, Freedom".

Iran state TV cut its coverage of the anthem and switched to a previously shown wide shot of the stadium.

Mass protests have been met with a fierce crackdown in recent months.

They have been sparked by the death in custody in September of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who was detained by morality police for allegedly breaking the strict rules around head coverings.

The Iran team news is in as well. Goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand misses out after getting concussed and breaking his nose against England, so Hossein Hosseini comes in.

There are also a couple of tactical changes, with Sadegh Moharrami and Sardar Azmoun recalled to a more attacking line-up, with Iran opting to start with two forwards.

Iran: Hosseini, Hajsafi, Mohammadi, Ezatolahi, Pouraliganji, Taremi, Gholizadeh, Hosseini, Azmoun, Nourollahi, Rezaeian.
