  7. Confidence at Ramsey's old schoolpublished at 09:53 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

    Amelia

Amelia is a year 13 student at Aaron Ramsey’s old school Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni and plays for Cascade, a women's team in Ystrad Mynach.

She is feeling a little nervous but confident that we can get the three points today. Amelia thinks Wales must be confident on the ball and play to their strengths.

Friends Hadley and Evan are also confident.

Hadley believes Wales are going to win 3-1 if we play like we did in the second half of the USA game

Evan, though, reckons Wales will win 2-1 – he agrees Wales need to start Kiefer Moore so they can move up the field.

The Welsh midfielder’s former teacher, Tony Wilding, tells Radio 5 Live “We’re really proud of him and everything he has gone on to achieve from Cardiff to being captain of his country, the youngest captain of our country.”

“Seeing all the pupils walk in with their red tops on and bucket hats on, you can feel the buzz.”

Tony says the pupils will gather together in the school hall “to watch on the big screen…they’re all looking forward to supporting our boys.”

  8. Quarter-finals?published at 09:51 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

The last time Wales were in a World Cup, they reached the last eight. Can they do it again?

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, former Wales international Ian Rush said: "We got to the quarter-finals last time in 1958. Hopefully we can do the same.

"What this bunch of players have done by qualifying for this World Cup has put Wales on the world map. People in the Middle East now know Wales is not in England. We are a nation to be proud of.

"We all look after each other. Together stronger, as they saying goes. If you're an individual you win nothing and the players are nothing without the fans. Put that all together and you have got Wales.

"There were more USA fans there but the 3,000 Wales fans made more noise. There are going to be 10-15,000 Wales fans singing so the players will love that.

"I'm just rooting for Wales. If England can get through good luck to them, but I'm here for Wales."

  10. 'We only knew we were coming this morning'published at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

    James Phillips and Alex Bell

James Phillips, 28, and Alex Bell, 27, from Newport only knew they were coming to support their country this morning.

They are teachers in Qatar and had failed to get tickets when they originally went on sale earlier this year.

“We just logged on this morning on the off-chance and there were some available amazingly,” said James.

“It just feels unreal, so many Wales fans, it’s so exciting. I just hope they get the job done.”

Gareth Bale will want to play every second of the two games to come.

Will his body allow him? We don't know yet. He knows by now how to prepare himself for 90 minutes.

It's asking a lot of him, given his age and the injuries he's had, but let's hope he can hold up. He is so, so important in the big moments for Wales.

Gareth Bale is the type of player, that you put an extra man in midfield for him to cover him, you don't ask him to do too much running, he still will because that's just the way he is.

But you try and save him for those moments that only he can deliver.

  14. 'Brains in the middle, legs out wide' - What Wales need against Iranpublished at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

It won't be easy for Wales against Iran, but we have to win - and we can learn from England to get the result we need.

I know we don't have the same quality throughout our team that England do, but the way they got their 6-2 win still has to be the blueprint for Rob Page in Friday's game.

I am talking about the tempo they set and how they moved the ball quickly, got it into wide areas and then delivered it into the box.

They kept putting the Iran defence under pressure, kept asking them questions… and we saw what happened in the end.

Watching Iran warm up, wow they are up for it.

They've named two strikers – Taremi is class and such a great finisher. I remember watching him score a cracker against Chelsea.

The reaction of the fans to Azmoun playing as well. All they have done is practise finishing and nothing else.

  16. Hymns and delight as Wales are back at World Cuppublished at 09:44 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

Wales' credentials as the land of song were burnished as the nation's return to the World Cup was serenaded by passionate singing from the fans.

Their choruses could be heard from pubs, fan zones and at pitch side in Qatar for Wales' first World Cup match since 1958.

Teary-eyed supporters from Ceredigion to New York City belted out the national anthem before the match.

At one fan event in Doha, they were led by Welsh folk singer Dafydd Iwan, whose 1983 song Yma O Hyd, has become the Welsh football team's unofficial anthem.

  18. Wales hoping for history repeat after Bale salvages USA drawpublished at 09:43 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales v Iran (10:00 GMT)

    Dafydd Pritchard
    BBC Sport Wales in Doha

Even in unfamiliar territory, Wales will feel like they have been here before.

Playing at their first World Cup for 64 years, the nation turned to a familiar saviour in Gareth Bale as they pulled a point from the fire in their opening game against the United States.

And although they had not graced this stage since 1958,Wales can turn to more recent history for inspiration as they plot their way forward in Qatar.

Having been absent from major tournaments for 58 years, Wales have qualified for three out of four since 2016. And it is the most recent of those, last year's delayed Euro 2020, which could form the template for progress at this World Cup.

In the sweltering heat of Azerbaijan, Wales' first match in 2021 was not going to plan as they trailed 1-0 at half-time against Switzerland, whose lead was no reflection of their dominance.

On that occasion, Kieffer Moore's header earned Wales a 1-1 draw and set the platform for the second group game - when they blew Turkey away to take a huge stride towards the second round.

In Qatar on Monday night, there were echoes of that campaign's beginning in Baku.

I think if Wales want to win today, Neco Williams and Connor Roberts need to get forward.

They need to get over the half way line, they need to support from those wider positions.
