Number 10. Messi. If I had a pound for the number of Lionel Messi shirts there are at the Lusail Stadium, I would be a very rich man. There is some huge expectation on some little shoulders - can he deliver in what is surely his last World Cup?

  6. 'Messi will produce at this World Cup'published at 09:20 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

Lionel Messi is on a different level and he can do whatever he wants.

Ashley is right, he'll know his own body. Once you get to a certain age you know how much training you need to do and how much you need to be with the group.

It only matters what he does on the pitch and he will produce in this World Cup.

It would be a real shame to not see Lionel Messi lift the World Cup trophy for Argentina at some point in his amazing career and, at 35, time is against him to make that a reality.

Four years ago was a particular low for Messi and the national team as they were eliminated from the 2018 World Cup at the last 16 stage after managing just a single win in the entire tournament.

Now though, Argentina are on an incredible run of form. The South American champions are unbeaten since 2019 and among the favourites to end their 36-year wait for World Cup glory.
