    Argentina 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia are boosted by that let off and win their first corner of the game. It comes to nothing but they win a free kick soon after to keep up the pressure but Salem Al Dawsari's delivery is too close to Emi Martinez in the Argentina goal.

    Argentina 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Lionel Messi is, of course, the furthest player forward for Argentina at the moment.

But Saudi Arabia have plenty of players in the Argentina half with Salem Al Dawsari particularly close to Emiliano Martinez's goal.

That is a warning for Saudi Arabia. They must get that high line right.

It looked like he might just be onside and it was just his arm that was offside, but some part of his body must have been offside.

It is ruled out for offside!

It was a tight call, looked just on to me but the VAR team have spotted an offside and Argentina's lead remains the one goal.

    Saudi Arabia still in this.

    Lautaro Martinez

    Superb finish!

Saudi Arabia were given a warning with their high line when Lionel Messi was flagged just offside a little earlier and this time they are caught out as the ball is played through to Lautaro Martinez, who waits for the goalkeeper before clipping a lovely finish into the back of the net.

Al Faraj should do better. They won the ball back and you think 'go and break' but they took too long.

A lot question Nicolas Otamendi, but that was good defending.

    Argentina 1-0 Saudi Arabia

A mistake by Rodrigo De Paul and for a second Argentina look really exposed at the back. Saudi Arabia can't capitalise before Nicolas Otamendi is clattered for a free kick.

Nearly Lionel Messi's eighth World Cup goal there - marginally offside though.

Seven goals and five assists in 20 World Cup appearances is pretty decent though... and you get the feeling he could add even more today.

He just went too early, but he finished it nicely.

Saudi Arabia are trying to play a high line, but it is hard to do that when you're not putting any pressure on the ball.

StevieB: Simply put, that should not be a pen. He is man-handled a bit but that doesn't make your legs collapse beneath you. We're in danger of encouraging diving again!

A brilliant ball over the top and Lionel Messi peels away from the defence to get onto it. He is into the area and slots home the flag is up for offside.

Tony: That pen has spoilt a game I was really looking forward to. The Argentinians are rolling around and winning free-kicks when minimal, if any, contact, and now they're rewarded for their play acting.

Lionel Messi skips a challenge on the edge of the area, prompting oohs from the expectant Argentina fans, but he immediately runs into trouble.

Argentina swiftly regain possession and work the ball to Papu Gomez on left but he arrows a shot well over.

That was a penalty so I don’t know what people are moaning about. The issue isn’t that being given but that England weren’t given one for the same thing. Media and pundits have been quiet though all the times in his career Maguire has got away with hugging players. Funny that.

    Argentina 1-0 Saudi Arabia

It has been mentioned that this Argentina defence could be their weak point. They do give the ball away cheaply but Saudi Arabia are unable to capitalise before Argentina break with a ball over the top for Lautaro Martinez, but he's offside.
