Need to change the offside rule if the tech is now this precise. Goals being ruled out for things nobody thinks should be offside. Making it even worse for fans who cannot celebrate goals properly when scored.

Another belter of a ball by Leandro Paredes finds Angel di Maria inside the box. Di Maria meets it first time but his volley lacks power and Mohammed Alowais clutches the ball out of the air.

Argentina will be happy because they are winning, but Saudi Arabia will be happy too because with the way Argentina started it could have been two or three very early.

Lovely ball by Leandro Paredes that slices through the Saudi Arabia defence to find Nahuel Molina on the right side of the box but his square ball is cut out.

There's five additional minutes at the end of the first half with Argentina pressing for that second.

Argentina are good on the eye but you do worry about them if they come up against a top-quality striker.

  6. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 44 mins

    Argentina 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia's dangerman Salem Al Dawsari goes down inside the box and there's a brief nervous moment for the Argentina fans, but he just lost control of the ball and his footing.

    Argentina 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Lionel Messi bends the ball into the box, it is headed away to the edge of the area but Rodrigo De Paul lashes a poor effort well over.

Saudi Arabia will be very happy if they can get to half time 1-0 down.

Good defending by Saud Abdulhamid as he pokes the ball behind as Angel di Maria shaped to shoot.

Argentina have another corner which Papu Gomez plays short to Lionel Messi, who is then clipped for a free kick.

Can Argentina make something happen from this?

Yes it's risky but VAR has ensured a good defensive line will be rewarded. As we are seeing, Argentina just can't stay onside. Credit to KSA

A brief pause as Salman Al Faraj is down injured. He's OK though and able to continue. I can't see us getting something like a million minutes of time added on like we have seen in some games so far.

    Argentina 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Argentina's seven offsides so far is the most by a team in the first half of a World Cup game since Spain against Republic of Ireland in 2002 (nine).

Marc: Is three disallowed goals due to a high line excellent defending or poor attacking play?

    Argentina 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia now have two banks of four sitting deep. It looks like those warning shots are prompting them to try and get to half time just the one goal down.

He doesn't need to go that early, arc your run!

People will say that Lionel Messi could have passed earlier, but no, he doesn't need to go that early.

  15. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 35 mins

    Argentina 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Another disallowed Argentina goal for offside!

To be fair, it is not even tight this one as Lautaro Martinez is miles offside. He does round the goalkeeper with a lovely disguised move, but it won't count.

That Saudi Arabia high line is surely going to be punished properly soon, though.

Saudi Arabia are competing, they are not making it easy for Argentina. No game is easy in the World Cup.

I know the England game looked that way yesterday, but that was because of England. They made a statement. Argentina haven't made a statement yet.

A few are tipping Lautaro Martinez to win the Golden Boot this tournament, and there are good reasons why as you can see from this brilliant piece by my colleague Phil Dawkes.

Almost off to a flyer there...

That is a poor ball in because you're not going to get many situations so those are the ones where you need to put in a good ball.

De Paul hasn't started well for Argentina. He's been poor in possession and he's given away some cheap free-kicks. Stay on your feet. He's started poorly.
