Burnley v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Burnley fully deserved their late comeback to beat Watford last week, which was their third win in a row.

Most people are probably expecting the Clarets to win this game too, and I'm sure their players will go into it full of confidence.

Villa got their first win in a while when they beat Norwich last week but they still have something to prove to head coach Steven Gerrard. There is no way they will roll over at Turf Moor.

    Prediction: 1-1

  7. 'Burnley are probably favourites today'published at 14:32 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

Burnley v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

What a story since Sean Dyche left Burnley. There was a lot of shock; you were thinking 'did they make the right decision?' Looking at the results, they've had a great reaction. Losing Ashley Westwood was a huge blow. They've got a real strong group; they are going to be there until the end.

This is the first game you'd call them favourites in. People might argue with that. It is how they can react.

Burnley v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC One Scotland

It [the number of wins needed to survive relegation] will change by the week. Nobody expected Burnley's upturn in results and performances, Everton have changed their approach to get the results and they've been fortunate that most of their games have been at home.

Their big challenge is picking up points away from home. Burnley have just got to keep going.

  9. Will Villa sign Coutinho?published at 14:28 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

Will Steven Gerrard sign Philippe Coutinho at the end of the season?

The arrival of former Liverpool playmaker Coutinho on loan at Aston Villa from Barcelona included the option to buy the 29-year-old for £33m but it remains to be seen if they go ahead with the signing.

He is starting on the bench for the first time since coming on and scoring on his debut against Manchester United in January.

Coutinho has scored four and provided three assists since arriving in the West Midlands but has not found the net since 10 March.

Anyone claiming Diaz would have had the same impact at United as he has at Liverpool are forgetting the form of Sancho and so many other players before heading to Old Trafford. Signing individuals won't fix the disarray the club are in.

  11. 'A significant moment for Chelsea'published at 14:23 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

Chelsea agree sale terms with Todd Boehly

    Dan Roan
    BBC Sports editor

This is the most significant moment yet since Chelsea was put up for sale, with the Boehly consortium now confident of completing what would be one of the most expensive deals in sports history.

Premier League approval is not expected to be an issue, and the government is keen to get the sale completed.

With concerns raised by rival bidder British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe over the leading role played by private equity firm Clearlake Capital in the Boehly consortium, I understand the club have received an assurance that the group will commit to owning the club for at least 10 years.

In another move designed to reassure fans and distinguish them from the Glazers - the US family that owns Manchester United - I am told the new owners will not pay themselves dividends or management fees during that period.

According to a source, there will also be a limit on the level of debt that the club can take on.

Only eight clubs have taken more points than Aston Villa, who celebrate the 40th anniversary of their 1982 European Cup triumph later this month, since Steven Gerrard's first game in charge on 20 November.

But he has already expressed frustration that the team has not kicked on enough, and a busy summer is looming in terms of changes to the playing squad.

Villa were two points above the relegation zone when he succeeded Dean Smith but after initially looking like they could challenge for Europe, they start at Burnley in 13th spot.

"I don't think we're going to be happy or celebrating anything this season because the team, from the beginning of the season to now, has underachieved," Gerrard added.

  13. 'A much easier afternoon for Chelsea'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    Chelsea v Wolves (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

I thought Chelsea were bullied a bit in their defeat by Everton last weekend, which was strange to see. Thomas Tuchel's side are usually physically strong and difficult to play against, but not at Goodison Park.

I am expecting this to be a much easier afternoon for the Blues, however. Wolves have lost three games in a row without posing much of a threat, and it appears they have signed off for the season.

    Prediction: 2-0

  15. Chelsea agree sale terms with LA Dodgers' Todd Boehlypublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

Chelsea fans started today with the news that the club has agreed terms on the £4.25bn ($5.2bn) sale to a consortium led by Todd Boehly, co-owner of the LA Dodgers baseball team.

The club was put up for sale before owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned for his alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine.

A Chelsea statement said the new owners will pay £2.5bn for the club's shares. The proceeds will go into a frozen bank account to be donated to charity.

The consortium said it will provide £1.75bn to invest in the Premier League club, including "investments in Stamford Bridge, the academy, the women's team and Kingsmeadow and continued funding for the Chelsea Foundation".

In the statement, , externalChelsea said the sale was expected to complete in late May. The takeover will require approval from the English football authorities and the UK government.

    Brentford v Southampton (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

It's not easy to predict the outcome of this one.

Both these teams have 40 points from 35 games and have been inching towards safety, although they both lost last weekend.

I don't see either of them going down now, but they probably both need another win to be absolutely sure of staying up.

    Prediction:1-2

The Bees are are winless in five home matches versus Southampton in all competitions spanning 63 years since a 2-0 victory in the third tier in September 1958 (D2, L3).

  19. When not if for Watfordpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

Crystal Palace v Watford (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

It's nice that Watford boss Roy Hodgson is going back to Selhurst Park in the week that he has announced this will be his final season in management.

He will get a great reception but it won't go as far as Crystal Palace allowing him to leave with the points.

The Hornets have lost their past five games and are on the brink of going back down to the Championship. It's just a matter of when their relegation will be confirmed.

    Prediction: 2-1

  20. Zaha returns to Palace line-up; four changes for Watfordpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

Crystal Palace v Watford (15:00 BST)

Palace boss Patrick Vieira makes five changes to the side that beat Southampton last week, with Jack Butland, Michael Olise, Will Hughes, Odsonne Edouard and Wilfried Zaha - who scored twice in February's win over Watford - all recalled.

Crystal Palace: Butland; Clyne, Andersen, Guehi, Ward, Olise, Gallagher, Hughes, Eze, Zaha, Edouard.

Subs: Matthews, Mitchell, Milivojevic, Tomkins, Kouyate, Ayew, Mateta, Schlupp, Benteke.

The prognosis is undoubtedly bleak for Watford, whose relegation may be confirmed this weekend even if they win at Selhurst Park.

Roy Hodgson's starting XI shows four changes from the defeat by Burnley, with Craig Cathcart, Tom Cleverley, Edo Kayembe and Josh King in.

Watford: Foster, Kiko, Samir, Cathcart, Kamara, Sissoko, Cleverley, Kayembe, Sarr, Dennis, King.

Subs: Bachmann, Ngakia, Etebo, Ekong, Masina, Sema, Gosling, Kabasele, Kalu.
