Lively start by the US, they like to play the game quickly. Everything they do is at pace which will be the opposite to how the Netherlands want to play this game.

Tyler Adams just sees things quicker than everyone else.

For what feels like the hundredth time this tournament he is there to win the ball back for his side after an attack breaks down.

Pulisic, though, just ghosts into those positions. We saw that in their last game.

They should really be ahead from that Pulisic chance.

If they control that midfield, they will create some good chances.

Already early in this match, the Netherlands have been pushed back into a back five or so with the US having plenty of possession.

The USA have burst out of the blocks, and after a Sergino Dest cross is cleared, Tyler Adams flicks a ball over the top for Christian Pulisic. The Chelsea forward is onside and had just Andries Noppert to beat but the Dutch keeper saves brilliantly with his boot.

The USA are quickly into their stride. They've gotten hold of the ball and are looking to put a bit of early pressure on the Dutch.

I'm looking at the Netherlands and thinking they've got the quality players but don't underestimate this USA team. With what they did against England, they're unbeaten so far and I think we could be in for a cracker.

Cody Gakpo put the Netherlands 1-0 ahead in all three of their group games at this World Cup; the last player to score the opening goal in four separate matches at a single World Cup was David Villa for eventual winners Spain in 2010, while the only Dutch player to do so was Johan Neeskens in 1974.

Christian Pulisic has been directly involved in six goals in his last nine appearances for USA in all competitions (4 goals, 2 assists), having a hand in both of their goals so far at the 2022 World Cup.

Overall, he's scored twice as many goals (22) for USA than any other player in the squad.

Netherlands are unbeaten in all 10 of their World Cup matches under Louis van Gaal (W7 D3), keeping five clean sheets in their last six games at the finals, including shutouts in each of their last three in the knockout stages.

The only side in World Cup history to keep four consecutive clean sheets in knockout games were Spain en route to winning the tournament in 2010.

Only Felipe Scolari (12) and Mário Zagallo (11) had longer unbeaten starts as managers than Van Gaal in World Cup history.

I think it's going to be a really good game. Lots of energy from the USA side but the quality will come from the team in orange.

Netherlands have reached at least the quarter-final in four of their last five appearances at the World Cup, failing only in 2006 in this run, losing 1-0 to Portugal in the round of 16.

USA have lost three of their four round of 16 matches at the World Cup, winning only in 2002 against Mexico. They've lost all three of their knockout round games against European sides – 7-1 against Italy (1934), 1-0 against Germany (2002) and 2-1 against Belgium (2014).
