    Argentina 0-0 Australia

Australia's Aziz Behich gets into the box, down at the byeline, and Rodrigo de Paul just about does enough to deal with the danger.

Disappointed with Messi there, he didn't go up for a header with Souttar. He's only a foot taller.

  3. 'Concentration is key for Australia'published at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The concentration is so key for Australia. Argentina will pass and pass and hope that Australia lose focus. So far, I don't think there has been one blade of grass out of position from Australia.

  4. 'Argentine fans bouncing'published at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

    Andy Cryer
    BBC Sport in Qatar

There are Argentina fans quite literally bouncing up and down all over the stadium.

Their team hasn't even done anything yet.

It will absolutely go off if they score...

  5. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

First chance of the game. Lionel Messi finds Alejandro 'Papu' Gomez on the left. The winger cuts in and lashes a wild shot high and wide.

  6. 'Australia happy'published at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC One

This has been really good from Australia. The more bitty and scrappy it is the happier they will be.

  7. Postpublished at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

I presume that's yellow and blue to mark his one-game loan spell at Oxford United in 2012.

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

First booking of the game as Australia's Jackson Irvine stands on the foot of Marcus Acuna.

  9. 'Australia have good shape'published at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC One

It's good from Australia. They're condensing the space, it's a good shape from them and good distance between players.

  10. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

Julian Alvarez is offside as he runs onto a ball forward and Harry Souttar defended it well anyway.

  11. 'Pressure on one man's shoulders'published at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

    Andy Cryer
    BBC Sport in Qatar

There is an air of expectancy every time the ball lands at Lionel Messi's feet.

Almost a hushed roar before an audible let out of breathe if he loses possession.

So much pressure on one man's shoulders.

  12. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

Harry Souttar plays a lovely diagonal ball to Mathew Leckie but he can't take it under control. Leckie scored the goal which took Australia here so I suspect he'll be given plenty of leeway.

Just the 88% of possession for Argentina in the first 10 minutes.

The Australian fans are clapping every time their team touch the ball... which isn't that often.

Lionel Messi's game has changed a lot. He walks more than any player you will ever see. He just walks and his head swivels and it's incredible because if any other player did that, you would shout at them to get moving and help the team.

He just looks for the angles and looks for the space. At the moment he is not finding much but he will at some point.

  15. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

Alexis Mac Allister is fouled and Argentina have a free-kick 40 yards out. They play it short and quick. A heavy Lionel Messi touch lets Australia take over.

Argentina get the ball back and Julian Alvarez miscontrols Nicolas Otamendi's pass.

  16. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

Mat Ryan and Mathew Leckie are both making their 10th appearance at the World Cup, the first Australian players to do so.

Ryan's goal-kick goes straight to an Argentine.

  17. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Australia

St Mirren's Keanu Baccus barges seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi onto the ground. Let him know you're there, as they say.

The noise never really stops with the Argentina fans over the course of 90 minutes. It might change and go up and down but their support is constant. Let's see if it changes if Australia spring a surprise and score a goal.

  19. Postpublished at 6 mins

It's 84-16% on possession so far.
