    Argentina 1-0 Australia

Argentina are just keeping the ball at the moment. They'll be happy to get to half-time with a lead after that first half.

Australia are yet to have a shot on target. Harry Souttar's blocked header is their closest thing to a chance.

Lionel Messi, 35, is the oldest Argentine to score a World Cup knockout goal - taking the 'record' off Roberto Ayala, who was 33 when he netted against Germany in the 2006 quarter-finals.

Messi can do the square root of nothing for 20 minutes. It only takes a second to score a goal. And he just turned it on for two or three minutes and that's been enough.

They should be rarely grateful they've got him because the performance was lacklustre.

It took a moment of magic. It's just the pace of the pass and once he got in the position we know he can finish.

Messi is doing his job. He's doing what is needed of him to push his team on. Let's be honest, nobody else in his team looked like they were going to do it.

About three minutes ago, it's as if Messi had enough of this. His one-two from the side there, he passes the ball differently from any other player. It hadn't left his boot and you knew it was in.

The man is, let's just say it one more time, a genius.

It's incredible that he can curl, he can hit it hard, this time it goes through a player's legs. I'm not sure if he meant to do that but I would not put it past him.

This scoreline is unfortunate on Australia but that can happen when you come up against one of football's all-time greats.

He's injected pace into the play, the first bit of life we've seen from him. Great pass and then a burst off the ball to get it back. Can he finish? Of course he can.

Setting the tone for his team, that's way he's the greatest.

He can turn the game in a second. Just magnificent.

    Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi makes it 789 goals in 1,000 games in his career - and this is his first ever strike in a World Cup knockout game.

The ball lands to him near the edge of the box from Nicolas Otamendi's touch and Messi steers the ball past Mat Ryan. Almost a side-footer.

0-0 is the correct score. If anything, Australia are shading it in the last five or 10 minutes. Argentina have been very disappointing.
