Portugal's Joao Cancelo is warming up during the break, and is being properly put through his paces while the crowd watch the half-time light show - featuring some drummers who look like they have escaped from Tron.

No sign of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo though, unless he is wearing a very sparkly mask.

I reckon if you were on the moon you would have heard the roar of the Morocco fans when Youssef En-Nesyri's goal went in. They've been outstanding at this World Cup.

The confidence was beginning to build particularly in the midfield. I've fallen a bit in love with the Moroccans after the first time I saw them, they play beautiful football, they've got technically brilliant players, the heart and desire, the organisation is good and the expectation has been very low so far.

They have grown more since then, they believe in themselves more than I thought they would today.

I honestly think they believe they should be in the lead and have thought no, we're not going to sit on this. I think they'll improve even more in the second half.

Three years is a long time in football.

In 2019, Morocco lost to Benin in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Now, they're 45 minutes away from a place in the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Mark: Pele predicted an African World Cup winner by 2000. He didn't quite get that right, but it would be great to see it happen in his lifetime

These quarter-finals have been out of this world.

We've seen an outstanding goal (Neymar), a stunning assist (Messi) and now we're on course for an astonishing upset.

So, Portugal have 45 minutes to find a way through a Morocco side who have only conceded one goal in their first four games - despite playing Croatia, Spain and Belgium on their way here.

Oh and they are facing the best counter-attacking team in this tournament and playing in a stadium which is 80% full of Morocco fans, who are probably the loudest supporters at this World Cup.

    Good luck with that, guys.

Sho: Diogo Costa has had a shocking tournament. So weird he hasn't been able to carry in his Porto form. Not handled the pressure so far this tournament.

Absolutely baffled as to why Santos didn’t pick RP as his no.1?

Portugal almost level through an incredible piece of individual brilliance by Bruno Fernandes, his attempt from the tightest of angles coming back off the bar.

Morocco fans are jumping for joy all around us - nearly as high as Youssef En-Nesyri leapt before burying his header in the Portugal net.

This place was pretty lively before they scored, but it is absolutely bouncing now - both ends are full of pure delight, apart from the couple of blocks of Portugal fans who are sitting silently in their seats.

  18. 'One of the best goals of the tournament'published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Pat Nevin

This might be a shock score line but it's not a surprise given the way the game has been played.

Morocco have been fantastic on the ball, that is one of the best goals of the tournament. the build-up through the midfield, little one-twos and the keeper is absolutely nowhere.

Technically, they have been the better team in this game and they deserve to be 1-0 up.

    We have lift-off!

Incredible noise as Morocco take the lead after Youssef En-Nesyri rises higher than anyone else to head past Diogo Costa.

But what a delivery by Yahya Attiat-Allah for the assist. Could Costa have done better? He was well off his line when he went for the cross but was beaten by En-Nesyri.

Andris: So maybe the problem wasn’t that Spain was passing too much, but Morocco are just pretty good… they should have watched this game before sacking Luis Enrique.

Saidmadrid: I have to admire the discipline and organisation of the Moroccan team...discipline is a good foundation for any team.

Abhishek: The pace of the game is incredible. How long can Morocco keep it up?
