Seanational. From the very first minute, Argentina went for France. They didn't look like they had any legs at all.

Argentina have turned in their very best performance. Great credit to the manager Lionel Scaloni again, he brought back Di Maria who has been the best player in the first half.

Argentina had an expected goals ratio of 1.46 in that half. France had 0.

Six shots in total from the Argentinians, including three on target (one from the penalty spot). Zero shots at all from France.

In fact, the 2018 champions haven't even had a touch in the opposition box.

Deschamps is going to have to come out with some team talk to inspire this uninspired France side for the second half! I'm shocked by how disappointing they have been for the first 45 minutes of this final.

France have been anonymous and bereft of ideas. They are making it up as they go along

The shape has gone, the team has gone, the pattern of play has gone.

    Argentina 2-0 France

The half ends with Antoine Griezmann floating a free-kick through the box and out for a goal-kick.

It has been a shockingly one-sided half of football.

Argentina in total control and deservedly so.

Argentina have been backing each other up all game. That intensity they have without the ball is difficult to match.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 45+7 mins

Randal Kolo Muani is at least trying to make an impact.

He is taken down by Enzo Fernandez, who earns a yellow card for it.

Andrew: Hugo Lloris having a bit of a shocker. He's nervous and tentative and not dominating his box. When your keeper is playing like that you'll make your defenders nervous too, and it's clear the French defense are not on the same page.

It's all so hopeful, so lacking in guile from France.

They fire a ball at the box but Nicolas Otamendi has all the time and room in the world to head away.

    You took Giroud off, remember!

I reckon I'm on the only one but I feel for France. So many clearly affected by this virus. A sorry spectacle for a World Cup final this.

I don't think Deschamps will need to give a team talk, these players will know.

These are experienced players, some world champions in this group. They know they are nowhere where they need to be to get back into this game.

    Chris Bevan
BBC Sport at Lusail Iconic Stadium

Argentina have been brilliant but it is hard to know why France have been so bad. They have not had a touch in the Argentina area yet, let alone a shot at goal, and are posing no threat whatsoever, even after those early substitutions.

Emi Martinez is given a free-kick to boot away. Is that pretty much his first touch?

De Paul was the one at 2-0, just before kick off who was screaming and shouting at his team to keep going and that this is not enough.

Even when France do get a glimpse of possession in the Argentina half, they have zero room to breathe. Lads in light blue and white stripes flying in.
