So the Lionesses are on their way home from Zurich for the start of the Euros.

The time for trying out new things and experimenting is over.

When they line-up against Austria in front of 70,000-plus at Old Trafford next Wednesday, it will be for real.

Euro 2022 is here and England are flying. Who else is excited?

Asked by ITV Sport 'is it coming home', former England forward Eni Aluko says: "I don't even want to say those words.

"If we go off the back of last year, we said a lot about coming home with the men's Euros, and it didn't come home."

"You will be happy [with England's record going into the Euros]. When you look at the teams and the way we have beaten those teams, we should be beating them.

"The way we have beaten them some of the time has been a bit disappointing because we should have been more ruthless from the start.

"We saw it again a week before the Euros. We are still seeing a little bit of not being ruthless enough in front of goal. We have got to finish those games off. Other than that it's been brilliant.

"It's fantastic for confidence going into your home Euros."

Sarina Wiegman is asked if England could be in a better position heading into the Euros:

"Well we always have things to improve. I think we are in a very good place. These are all friendlies and it's very nice to play and to learn from it. But it really starts next Wednesday.

"We are in a very good place but we have to improve a couple of things."

More from Wiegman: "We started well. We had three big chances at the beginning of the game and it would have been easy to score those goals but we didn't. The keeper did a very good job too. They got dangerous and we had to speed up the game in the first half more.

"We were slow and the ball tempo was too low. In the second half we did a little better and they got tired."

Asked what did she learn from England's performance in Zurich, Sarina Wiegman tells ITV Sport: "It's a very good result. I think we showed again we are a very fit team. They got tired, we brought on substitutes and we showed again we don't play with just 11 players. We have so many more players in our squad who can make a change."

They struggled a little in the first half, but the second has definitely proved just how strong this England team can be.

The subs helped make a big difference and the team were a much-improved unit who ran the hosts' defence ragged.

That strength in depth could be England's key weapon at the Euros.

She laughs and says: "We'll see, we'll see."

England forward Alessia Russo, speaking to ITV Sport: "There were times in the first half where we could have scored but we were patient. At half-time we spoke about keeping the tempo high and the substitutes made a difference.

"It was great to score. Sometimes it's not always going to be impressive but its great to get the win. Now we can get locked in and focus on the Euros."

England are now 14 games unbeaten under head coach Sarina Wiegman and will go into the home Euros off the back of an excellent warm-up campaign.

It ends 4-0 to England here after a strong second-half performance spurred on by the substitutes.

Ellen White didn't manage to get onto the pitch, but England managed to do it once again even in her absence.
