    Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers (20:00)

    Don Hutchison
Ex-Scotland forward on BBC Radio 5 Live

I nearly signed for Rangers in 2000 when I was leaving Sunderland. I had a choice of signing for West Ham for a second time or Rangers. I was unbelievably tempted.

I wish I'd pulled on a Rangers shirt. My dad was a Rangers fan. I watch them from a distance. A little part of me thinks what if I had Rangers on my CV.

  2. 'It means so much to Frankfurt fans'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 18 May 2022

    Archie Rhind-Tutt
Football journalist on BBC Radio 5 live

It's a similar fairytale for Eintracht Frankfurt. This was a club which had only 2,000 members 20 years ago. Back then the club was within a meeting of going bust. They won this compition in 1980 but this would be the greatest night in this generation of Frankfurt fans.

They are just as nervous as the Rangers fans. The Frankfurt fans I know haven't been able to get much sleep. It means so much to them. They know Rangers aren't quite the same quality individually as teams they have beaten in previous rounds like Real Betis, Barcelona and West Ham.

At 40 years and 107 days old, Rangers' Allan McGregor is the third player to appear in a major European final aged 40 and over after fellow goalkeepers Dino Zoff (for Juventus in 1983 European Cup final) and Edwin van der Saar (for Manchester United in 2011 Champions League final).

  4. Rangers' route to Sevillepublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 18 May 2022

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers (20:00)

Rangers started in the Champions League, losing out to Malmo, before dropping into the Europa League qualifiers.

    Qualifying round: Rangers 1-0 Alashkert

Rangers, then managed by Steven Gerrard, fell at the first hurdle in the Champion League qualifiers, knocked out by Malmo in the third qualifying round. Armenian outfit Alashkert awaited in the play-off round qualifier for the Europa League and 10-man Rangers edged to a 1-0 first-leg victory at Ibrox before playing out a goalless draw in Yerevan.

    Group stage

Consecutive defeats by Lyon and Sparta Prague gave Rangers a mountain to climb, but four points from their next two fixtures in back-to-back games with Brondby kept their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

A two-goal victory over Sparta Prague in what was Giovanni van Bronckhorst debut game, would ensure passage from Group A before a draw away to Lyon.

Round of 32: Borussia Dortmund 4-6 Rangers

Rangers stunned Borussia in Germany as they went three up inside 49 minutes en route to a famous 4-2 win. A pulsating 2-2 draw at Ibrox secured progress.

Round of 16: Rangers 4-2 Red Star Belgrade

Rangers recorded a 3-0 Ibrox win over the Serbian champions, with a 2-1 defeat in Serbia not enough to deny the Scottish side.

    Quarter-final: Sporting Braga 2-3 Rangers

Rangers fell 1-0 behind in Portugal, but regained their composure in time for the second leg and a 3-1 extra-time victory at Ibrox secured a place in the last four.

    Semi-final: RB Leipzig 2-3 Rangers

A late Leipzig goal in Germany meant Rangers again had to come from behind - but another 3-1 win at Ibrox took them through.

It looks, feels, and sounds like a major final. You can feel the atmosphere is rising minute by minute. The stadium is filling, the noise level is going up. Eintracht Frankfurt fans are coming alive now - they've been out-sung since we've been in the stadium. It looks beautiful, it's a magnificent theatre.

    Scott Mullen
BBC Scotland in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium

Frankfurt's end of the ground is already pretty much packed and we're still a good 35 minutes away from kick off.

Meanwhile, the Rangers supporter go nuts as their team enter the field to warm up.

The notion that there's only 9500 Rangers fans in here is fanciful stuff. Around three quarters of the place is already bathed in light blue. This place will be a cauldron tonight.

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers (20:00)

So, Eintracht Frankfurt are unbeaten in 12 games in Europe this season, including two wins in Spain.

Think again, if you were writing off a team that finished 11th in the Bundesliga.

    Group stage

Oliver Glasner's side qualified directly for the group stage, starting with a draw against Fenerbache before three wins on the trot - against Antwerp and twice versus Olympiacos. Two draws against Antwerp and Fenerbache rounded off their group campaign.

Round of 16: Real Betis 2-3 Eintracht Frankfurt

The German side have already had a successful trip to Seville during the tournament, beating Betis 2-1. A 90th-minute goal in Germany took the tie into extra time, but Frankfurt were saved from penalties by a last-minute own goal.

    Quarter-final: Eintracht Frankfurt 4-3 Barcelona

Frankfurt had to see out a 1-1 home-leg draw with 10 men in the first-leg against favourites Barca. But they were victorious again in Spain, leading by three goals before the hosts hit two in the latter stages.

Semi-final: West Ham United 1-3 Eintracht Frankfurt

A 2-1 win in London put Frankfurt in the driving seat for the second-leg against David Moyes' side. Frankfurt won their home tie in the second-leg 1-0 against the 10-man visitors.

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The atmosphere has been lovely the past couple of days. We've witnessed a couple bits of ugliness, but most from the German side. It's astonishing in this stadium, you can hardly hear yourself think.

A number of people said to me there would be 9,000 Rangers fans. There's a huge amount more here. It looks like it will be mostly true blue.

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers (20:00)

While James Tavernier flies up and down the right flank for Rangers, Filip Kostic will be going the other way.

The Serbia left wing-back is a major threat for Eintracht Frankfurt and has scored three goals in his team's run to the final, along with the most assists in the tournament (five).

James Tavernier happens to be the top scorer in the tournament, which is pretty amazing since he didn't find the net in the group stage, never mind the fact he's a right-back!

The 30-year-old Englishman has seven goals in the knockout rounds, four of those from the penalty spot.

It's key individuals that have enhanced the performances that we've seen in Europe from Rangers. The likes of Kent, Aribo, Lundstram - the guys that can make something out of nothing. If they're at it, that gives you a massive boost. They need to be at it from the get go.

  17. Tavernier vows to 'make everyone proud'published at 18:56 British Summer Time 18 May 2022

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers (20:00)

Only three captains of Scottish teams have hoisted European trophies aloft...

Billy McNeill (Celtic '67), John Greig (Rangers '72) and Willie Miller (Aberdeen '83).

James Tavernier is hoping to be the fourth.

"This means the world to us," said the Ibrox skipper yesterday. "I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the team and the boss. It's one step away and we want to bring the cup back home. We'll leave everything on the pitch and make everyone proud."

  18. 'Fans here to give us extra push' - Goldsonpublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 18 May 2022

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers (20:00)

Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson tells BT Sport: "We know the game plan, we know what we need to do, hopefully we can get the job done.

"[The fans] show up in their thousands wherever we go. They are here to give us the extra push we need.

"All eyes have been on the football, it's been quite relaxed. We're ready to go.

"[Winning] crosses your mind, but we have a job to do and we know we're against a tough opponent."

It's what we expected. How do you break up a team that's won the second leg of a Europa League semi-final? It would have been very difficult to do. I thought Roofe would have given them a definitive goal threat but he's on the bench. It's the team that's gotten them this far.
