Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to ITV Sport: "I liked the game a lot, but most of the time City games against us are cool to watch. We don't always win but they are entertaining. I was happy with our start of the game, but every sub made a difference. The boys are ready and it is good.
"We played the smarted passes. We saw Darwin Nunez in dangerous situations. He used the spaces and finished well, too."

Tom: Watching Liverpool v City every single time is just so good. After the years of Chelsea v United bore draws or drab wins it's so fantastic to see the top two class attacking teams going at it

Apparently, according to ITV, there were runners-up medals available for the Man City players. But they opted not to collect them. To be fair, it's not one you'd prize in your collection is it?

Bobby Seagull: I'm looking forward to being at the London Stadium next weekend as West Ham welcome Man City for the Premier League. Hopefully the Community Shield defeat by Liverpool will have knocked a bit of their confidence. Here's to hoping...

Darwin Nunez is the fourth player to score on his debut for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, after Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Good company. Bodes well for the young striker.

Ian: City are a passing team, Haaland likes the quick ball over the top to run onto. They'll need to get that balance right. You don't want Haaland to lose what has made him such a formidable striker.

For the 16th time, Liverpool are Community Shield winners. Only Manchester United, with 21 victories, have won it more.
The medals are dished out and up steps Jordan Henderson to hold aloft yet another bit of silverware.
It's cheers and pyrotechnics again for Liverpool!

tonyonduli: A great start to the season for the Redmen. Jurgen has now won all competitions in England. Mo and his new strike partner score. City know we have evolved. Bring on the new season. YNWA.

As Haaland seethes, Darwin Nunez is all smiles, a bottle of champagne in his hands ready to pop.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, speaking to ITV Sport: "This one means a lot as it's the third time we've been in it. Our season started today and it was important for us to get off on the right foot."
Asked how good Darwin Nunez's substitute perforrmance was? "It has got to be up there. He won the penalty, scored a goal and looked very lively. He's been bought in to score goals and he's proved he can do that today.
"He's a top player, a young player who is willing to learn. He's bonded well with the lads. He came on with a point to prove.
"Who knows what will happen over the course of the season? Our aim is to be as fit as possible to push them from the very first kick. This was the perfect start and we hope to win trophies along the way."

Erling Haaland is on the pitch at the King Power, staring intently into the middle distance. He'll be thinking about his two chances, stewing on them, getting wound up. Angry.
Premier League defenders won't like him when he's angry.

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 LiveLiverpool deserved to win this.
The first half was played with such a high intensity, they tried to take the game to City and question their ability to cope.
City levelled and they had 15 minutes where you thought they'd go on, but as soon as Liverpool scored again, that was it.
Brilliant game.

Inevitably, a lot of people will see this as a Darwin Nunez victory over Erling Haaland.
The Liverpool forward was on the scoresheet, the Norwegian was not and also missed a few great chances.
I think it is pretty clear, though, that they're both going to score boatloads this season.

It has not been Erling Haaland's day.
This is a big miss. Phil Foden's low shot deflects too him, with just the keeper to beat, but he lifts his shot and it hits the bar before going over.
