JoeD: Further proof Nathan Ake is the weak-link in the City side.
Liverpool 1-0 Man City
A chance for both teams!
Kevin de Bruyne gets in down the right but fires his low shot just wide.
Soon after, Roberto Firmino works space just inside the box but slices his effort off target.
It's a proper game, this.
Liverpool 1-0 Man City
Oh, almost our first sight of Erling Haaland in full flight.
Jack Grealish gets to the byline and sends a cross in the direction of the Norwegian, who winds up for a spectacular volley but is beaten to the ball by Virgil van Dijk.

The ball ends up at Salah's feet again. When he gets the ball they are doubling up on him.
It forces Salah to do something. He rolls it into Trent Alexander-Arnold and he curls it into an area.
It was Ake who took it away from the 'keeper.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
It has been coming!
Liverpool switch the ball twice - over to Luis Diaz and then via Thiago to Mohamed Salah to the right. The forward sets up Trent Alexander-Arnold and he wraps his boot around the ball to send it flying into the far corner. There looked to be a little flick off Nathan Ake too.
Regardless, Liverpool lead. And they've earned it.

Every time a midfielder has the ball, Haaland just spins.
It doesn't matter if he's on Van Dijk, Matip or a full-back, he just wants to spin in behind.
That is different for City, they are so used to dominating possession with a striker who drops deep.
Haaland is offering something different.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Well, if you thought this was going to a glorified friendly, think again. The tackles are flying in.
Fabinho just overdoes it and is penalised for smashing into Rodri. This just after Ederson had come out to push the ball away from Luis Diaz in the box.

Zahi: It’s already clear to every other teams’ fan that the title will go to either City or Liverpool
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Pep Guardiola looks a lot more flustered than Jurgen Klopp. The Spaniard is up and pointing, with an exasperated look in his face. The German, in contrast, strolls calmly around his technical area.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
The last few minutes have been much more recognisably Manchester City. They keep the ball in the Liverpool half, patiently working for an opening. It does not come, though, as Liverpool hold firm at the back.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
There is a feeling of Liverpool wanting to make a point here.
City pipped them to the title last year, but the Reds have belted out of the blocks in this opening 15 minutes.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City

There is loads of space for Liverpool.
I don't know whether that is just the energy they've started with or if it's something they've looked at.
Look at the assists from wide areas over the last three years. They've started well in that regard today.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Good chance!
It is Liverpool again. Trent Alexander-Arnold floats a superb cross to the back post for fellow full-back Andy Robertson, who has all the time and space he needs but heads into the sidenetting.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
City look to break but after winning the ball Kevin de Bruyne is swarmed upon by red shirts. Nowhere to go in the middle of the pitch.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Liverpool are looking really sharp.
Mohamed Salah is the game's leading light in this opening 12 minutes. Constantly moving, always looking for the ball, persistently threatening.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Kyle Walker goes way too early to find space on the right for a Rodri pass. The offside flag halts City's attack.

Ewan: Let's see how Haaland gets on in the PL. Sancho, Havertz and Werner also scored lots of goals in the Bundesliga.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Liverpool continue to look the most consistent threat.
A cross towards Luis Diaz is decent but City react well to win the ball and clear.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Much better from City.
Kevin de Bruyne is alert and nips in to intercept a pass near the Liverpool box. He looks for the top corner but his effort deflects just wide.
City work the first corner short and then in for Nathan Ake to glance a header off target.
