Every time a midfielder has the ball, Haaland just spins.

It doesn't matter if he's on Van Dijk, Matip or a full-back, he just wants to spin in behind.

That is different for City, they are so used to dominating possession with a striker who drops deep.

Haaland is offering something different.

Well, if you thought this was going to a glorified friendly, think again. The tackles are flying in.

Fabinho just overdoes it and is penalised for smashing into Rodri. This just after Ederson had come out to push the ball away from Luis Diaz in the box.

The last few minutes have been much more recognisably Manchester City. They keep the ball in the Liverpool half, patiently working for an opening. It does not come, though, as Liverpool hold firm at the back.

There is a feeling of Liverpool wanting to make a point here.

City pipped them to the title last year, but the Reds have belted out of the blocks in this opening 15 minutes.

There is loads of space for Liverpool.

I don't know whether that is just the energy they've started with or if it's something they've looked at.

Look at the assists from wide areas over the last three years. They've started well in that regard today.

It is Liverpool again. Trent Alexander-Arnold floats a superb cross to the back post for fellow full-back Andy Robertson, who has all the time and space he needs but heads into the sidenetting.

City look to break but after winning the ball Kevin de Bruyne is swarmed upon by red shirts. Nowhere to go in the middle of the pitch.

Liverpool are looking really sharp.

Mohamed Salah is the game's leading light in this opening 12 minutes. Constantly moving, always looking for the ball, persistently threatening.

Kyle Walker goes way too early to find space on the right for a Rodri pass. The offside flag halts City's attack.

Ewan: Let's see how Haaland gets on in the PL. Sancho, Havertz and Werner also scored lots of goals in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool continue to look the most consistent threat.

A cross towards Luis Diaz is decent but City react well to win the ball and clear.

Much better from City.

City work the first corner short and then in for Nathan Ake to glance a header off target.
