Almost an answer to the second question!

Darwin Nunez sprints in behind the City defence and goes down as he tries to go around Ederson. The ref's decision is... offside.

It would have been a penalty had he stayed on to receive the initial pass.

Graymanuk: City looking a little rusty - playing this game before the season proper will do them good. Cancelo and Grealish particularly ineffective so time to bring on Zinchenko and Sterling - oh, wait...

    Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Liverpool know the best form of defence is attack. Luis Diaz's cross is poked behind for a corner.

    Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Jack Grealish has been well-marshalled so far but he remains a big threat.

He picks it up on the left and has Liverpool backtracking, but his cross is behind Erling Haaland, allowing Andy Robertson to chest back to Adrian.

This second half has started rather niggly. Lots of little fouls, nothing major but it is repetitive fouling in central areas.

The referee is trying to get control of it.

  9. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Trent Alexander-Arnold is in the hunt for a second goal.

The ball breaks to him in the box but his fierce effort is blocked.

It remains at a furious pace.

Kevin de Bruyne is as likely as anyone to fashion City a way back into this game. He is cruising around in typical fashion, looking for the space in which he can be most effective.

Tom: As a Liverpool fan seeing people write off Haaland after one half in a Community Shield match is ridiculous. He's a class above the Werner's and will be annoyingly good. Diouf played really well in a charity shield debut and we all know what happened there.

Andy Robertson whips a free-kick deep into the box towards Fabinho, but Nathan Ake gets his head to it first to glance the ball away from danger.

Riyad Mahrez is a bit wild in his next act, fouling Luis Diaz in the City half. This can go in the box from Liverpool.

City with a good chance to level it up almost straight away.

The ball is floated to Riyad Mahrez deep in the box by Rodri. He is behind Andy Robertson and cuts back inside but doesn't catch his shot. Adrian blocks.

Shamshad: Haaland is so confused about when City players are going to pass a high ball. They won't! Try to adapt to Pep's Tiki Taka.

There have been no changes from either side at the break.

We could have 12 in this second half, though, with each team permitted six each.

Another high-quality, high-intensity half like that first one would do just fine, thanks lads.

    We are back under way.

I think that first 45 minutes will have buoyed a lot of Liverpool fans. They look like they've barely been away.

As for City, there is a bit more rust. Erling Haaland should probably have one goal to his name, but he's shown little flashes of what he can do.

Great half of football. A pleasure to watch this game, two top teams going at it.

It doesn't have an early season feel at all; a proper game, really good quality.

Haaland has changed the dynamic; Liverpool deservedly lead.
