This second half has started rather niggly. Lots of little fouls, nothing major but it is repetitive fouling in central areas.

The referee is trying to get control of it.

Kevin de Bruyne is as likely as anyone to fashion City a way back into this game. He is cruising around in typical fashion, looking for the space in which he can be most effective.

Tom: As a Liverpool fan seeing people write off Haaland after one half in a Community Shield match is ridiculous. He's a class above the Werner's and will be annoyingly good. Diouf played really well in a charity shield debut and we all know what happened there.

Andy Robertson whips a free-kick deep into the box towards Fabinho, but Nathan Ake gets his head to it first to glance the ball away from danger.

Riyad Mahrez is a bit wild in his next act, fouling Luis Diaz in the City half. This can go in the box from Liverpool.

City with a good chance to level it up almost straight away.

I think that first 45 minutes will have buoyed a lot of Liverpool fans. They look like they've barely been away.

As for City, there is a bit more rust. Erling Haaland should probably have one goal to his name, but he's shown little flashes of what he can do.

Great half of football. A pleasure to watch this game, two top teams going at it.

It doesn't have an early season feel at all; a proper game, really good quality.

Haaland has changed the dynamic; Liverpool deservedly lead.
