As for Fulham, they've been a yo-yo club over the last five years, going straight back down on the last two occasions they returned to the Premier League.

They made wholesale changes last time they came up in 2020-21, which didn't quite work, but this time they've brought in just a few new players.

Joao Palhinha and Andreas Pereira both make their debut in midfield today, while goalkeeper Bernd Leno and defender Kevin Mbabu are there other high-profile signings.

Fabio Carvalho left for Liverpool of course, while midfielder Jean Michael Seri ended his four-year spell with Fulham by staying in the Championship with Hull City.

Plenty of players left Liverpool this summer but the biggest name to leave was forward Sadio Mane, who scored on his Bundesliga debut as Bayern Munich beat Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 on Friday.

Darwin Nunez was the big-money signing while the Reds also sealed a deal to sign 19-year-old forward Fabio Carvalho from Fulham and another 19-year-old, full-back Calvin Ramsay, from Aberdeen.

But their biggest signing could potentially be Mohamed Salah agreeing to a contract extension.

  11. Team news - Nunez starts on benchpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

Fulham XI: Rodak, Tete, Adarabioyo, Ream, Robinson, Reed, Palhinha, Reid, Pereira, Kebano, Mitrovic.

Substitutes: Solomon, Leno, Duffy, Mbabu, Cairney, Muniz, Francois, Harris, Stansfield.

New £64m forward Darwin Nunez starts on the bench for Liverpool along with ex-Fulham forward Fabio Carvalho.

There are two changes to the side that started the Champions League final on 28 May - Roberto Firmino and Joel Matip coming in for Sadio Mane, who has left, and Ibrahima Konate, who is injured.

Mohamed Salah, who starts, has scored in Liverpool's opening Premier League game in each of his five seasons with the club.

Liverpool's bench includes 20-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg, 18-year-old Preston-born left-back Luke Chambers and 17-year-old Stefan Bajcetic, who can play centre-half or in midfield.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Firmino, Diaz.

Substitutes: Gomez, Milner, Adrian, Elliott, Nunez, Carvalho, van den Berg, Bajcetic, Chambers.

  12. Will the Reds' new boy Nunez start?published at 11:28 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Fulham v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

So, who do you fancy to win the Premier League title this season?

Manchester City and Liverpool look set to battle it out yet again, and both have spent big to bring in top-drawer strikers this summer.

Liverpool and Darwin Nunez struck the first psychological blow last week as Nunez came off the bench to seal a 3-1 win over City.

Erling Haaland missed a great late chance for City and we'll hear from him about that at 12:00 BST.

But the big question today is, will Nunez start against Fulham? We'll find out in a jiffy.

  14. Gunners' 'old' new signing shows classpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Arsenal

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Arsenal's high-profile summer arrivals have claimed the headlines in a pre-season bubbling over with goals and optimism - but it was an "old" new face who made the biggest impression when the serious business started.

Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have brought their winning mentality from Premier League champions Manchester City as they reunited with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as he tries to push the Gunners forward this season.

And while both showed quality and pedigree as Arsenal opened the season with a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace, it was the defensive performance of 21-year-old William Saliba that outshone everyone else to create a real stir of excitement among the visiting fans.

Saliba took the scenic route to his first Premier League start after joining Arsenal from St Etienne for £27m in July 2019, taking in loan spells back at his parent club then at Nice and Marseille, impressing so much there that he won full France honours.

He was Ligue 1 Young Player Of The Season last year and his spell away from Emirates Stadium raised questions about where he fitted into Arteta's plans, with Marseille keen to make his loan deal permanent.

Here's more from Phil on Saliba's long-awaited Arsenal debut.

Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones and Kostas Tsimikas have all been ruled out.

The Reds will also be without Diogo Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who are recovering from injuries sustained over the summer.

We'll have the starting line-ups for you in 15 minutes.

Mikel Arteta praises Arsenal's winning mentality after beating Crystal Palace

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told Match of the Day: "I have had this feeling for the first few weeks since the boys started pre-season. They are ready, they look hungry, with that mentality that they really want to win.

"The team came here to play the way we wanted to play - we were dominant, we were a threat, we were really lively and sharp from the beginning. Then when we felt under pressure we coped with that with resilience."

The Gunners have made a few promising signings and have now made a winning start too... are they the real deal this season? Will they secure a top-four spot? Hit those thumbs people!!

  17. ICYMI... Gunners beat Palace in season openerpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Arsenal

    Alex Bysouth
    BBC Sport

Arsenal got their campaign off to the perfect start with victory over Crystal Palace in an entertaining 2022-23 Premier League curtain-raiser at Selhurst Park.

The Gunners maintained their impressive pre-season form with an energetic performance that was rewarded when Gabriel Martinelli nodded in a 20th-minute opener from new signing Oleksandr Zinchenko's headed assist.

It took Palace most of the first half to adapt to the visitors' tempo, but once they did Odsonne Edouard forced Aaron Ramsdale into a save after Joachim Andersen's header found him in the six-yard box.

Buoyed by a vibrant home crowd, the Eagles poured forward in search of a leveller but it was Arsenal who found the net again, Marc Guehi inadvertently heading Bukayo Saka's fierce cross into his own goal late on.
