Four points from their opening five matches was enough to see Stoke boss Michael O'Neill removed from his position on Thursday.

The Potters head to Blackburn under the caretaker charge of Dean Holden today, although it seems increasingly likely that Alex Neil will be taking the club on from here.

Blackburn won their first three league games under Jon Dahl Tomasson without conceding and then lost their subsequent two matches 3-0.

They'll look to capitalise on the uncertainty at Stoke today.

Those types of wins away at a big club like this are fantastic.

The manner in which Norwich have kept that clean sheet, they've thrown bodies on the line.

The one bit of quality made the difference.

A tough end to a hard week for Sunderland.

The home side were rocked yesterday by boss Alex Neil's decision to go and talk to Stoke City about their managerial vacancy.

The Black Cats battled well under the caretaker charge of his assistant Martin Canning and hit the bar through Ross Stewart and the post through striking partner Ellis Simms.

However, Norwich turned the tide with the introduction of Teemu Pukki, Todd Cantwell and Aaron Ramsey and it was the latter who teed up Josh Sargent for the winner.

It's three successive wins for Dean Smith's men.

The Black Cats fans will now wait for what seems to be the inevitable news that Neil has taken over at the Potters.

Elliot Embleton goes for goal with the set-piece when the home side have loaded the box.

It goes over the bar, much to the chagrin of everyone of a red and white persuasion.

Tim Krul is then finally booked for time-wasting in the Canaries goal.

    Michael Nelson

Josh Sargent's trying to buy it for me.

It's a brilliant turn from him just inside the box - I don't think he needs to go down, I think he sees the defender coming over and tries to buy one.

Norwich look to put it to bed.

Teemu Pukki does ever so well to keep the ball in the area and tees up Marcelino Nunez 20 yards out.

The Chilean makes good connection with his effort but Black Cats skipper Corey Evans charges the shot down.

Moments later Josh Sargent goes to ground in the area looking for a penalty but no dice.

This will be a tough one for Sunderland fans to take if they can't find a late leveller.

They've responded well to the upheaval around Alex Neil walking out to take the Stoke job and have hit the woodwork twice this half.

Norwich used their bench really well and the triple sub from Dean Smith around the hour mark turned this match in his side's favour.

Bit of a stoppage as goalscorer Josh Sargent gets some treatment after a heavy fall.

He should be OK, if a little sore.

The ball across the box from Aaron Ramsey to Josh Sargent - I'm sure that's just what the manager wants.

One wideman crossing for the other to finish in the centre of the goal.

The substitutes are making a massive difference.

    It had been coming!

Norwich finally get their goal and it's in-form forward Josh Sargent with it.

Aaron Ramsey (again, not that one) does well down the Norwich left and fires a low cross into the middle that the American converts from close in.

Sunderland striker Ellis Simms joins his forward partner Ross Stewart in hitting the woodwork!

It bounces up, beats Max Aarons on the line but clatters the post.

    Well!

Norwich think they should have a penalty as Sam Byram goes to ground in the area as Corry Evans pulls his shirt after a corner falls at his feet.

The Canaries in the ascendancy at the moment but Sunderland threatening on the counter.
